Yes, that was THE machine. I remember reading about it in magazinse long before it came out. Really really wanted one, but they were crazy money at the time. Fortunately they brought out the 500 quite quickly afterwards. I spent all the money i save from my first summer job buying one - £589 from memory,

First machine was the Commodore 16, but Ghosts 'n' Goblins would always crash after the first level so I won't choose it. Bloody annoying when the games took ages to load.

Not quite as bad at the 30 minutes Chase HQ took to load on the Spectrum though... Even once I got a multiface and a +3 and could dump the ram to floppy the game still took what felt like an age.

My favourite would probably be one of my Amigas. I skipped the first few models and went straight for the A600, and then the A1200 a while later. Some of the best games I'll ever play were released for it. Frontier, SWOS, Syndicate...

Ahh well I knew binary since I was a child, wasn't until uni that I was actually programming chips in machine code. :D

I still have my BBC B Computer, complete with Teletext adaptor and Music 5000 System. I also found loads of 5" floppy disks. Wonder if they all still work?

The one thing I really remember is waiting AGES for tapes to load a game...and then the computer would crash.

Gooner just reminded me of buying those computer mags and typing in basic programmes for the spectrum from the magazine for ages.

Then when you ran them they never quite worked. There was always a typo, or a command you didn't quite get right. Searching the keyboard for a symbol you could never find.

Oh those gloriously frustrating days. My kid looking over my shoulder desperate to play.
