    Debt-free and Proud!
My last lot of auctions finished today and in the last week I have sold 10 out of the 14 that I listed, bringing in £109/£500, after fees . That is nearly one months payment off my DMP for stuff that was just lying around and will not be missed. (Have decided that we will put any money made on ebay into premium bonds until we have enough to make a settlement offer on our last remaining cc). Will make a real effort tomorrow to get back to my original plan of listing 5 items a day, and hope to do a boot fair this weekend if the weather is good.

Good luck to everyone else in your challenges.

  • Great to see everyone is doing so well! I'm having camera issues at the mo, so no listings for me yet :(

For us newbies, this would be useful to know:

What do you all find sells really well at the mo? What seems to be popular?

I have never sold before, and could always do with a few tips! :)

This is such a great thread. Very motivating.

Everything in our house furniture wise is either falling apart or on its way out and needs replacing. We started e-baying in February and have managed to put £400 towards a new television (the old one was on the verge of blowing up) and have now got £60 towards a new dining table and chairs. Next on the list is new bedroom furniture for the kids room. After that its saving up for the dreaded school uniform. It's a drag putting the stuff on e-bay and the stuff you think will sell sometimes doesn't and vice versa but its been great for us. I try to put a few bits on every weekend. Well done everyone.

    Hi

I thought i would share my experiences with you
I was 20,000 in debt in September 06 and have been paying this off ever since
Last Xmas i decided i didnt want this over me anymore so i started to sell anything and everything on Ebay
I have now saved over £7,000 of the £8,000 debt remaining
Only problem is that £4,000 of it is on PayPal and they have limited my account
I think its cos i went to withdraw this full amount and they see it as abnormal compared to my previous usage - anyway that should be sorted within the next 24 hours
I have been trawling through car boots for months and picking up some real bargains to sell on Ebay
Keep it up everyone its worth it
By the end of April i will be debt free!!

Sorry but i fogot to mention that if you find someone selling a large quantity of the same item then its always worth asking if they would sell you a batch at a lower rate
I done this with some PC parts and we done it out of Ebay and PayPal to avoid any fees - i know there is a risk involved but i had already purchased a few items from this one seller so i knew he was quite ok plus he was a power seller
Anyway i saved over £2500 doing this and when i sold all the items i had made over £3000 by doing this!
Some have even provided me with their wholesalers details to order direct from in future
I know that it means spending money but its to save money in the long run so if you have the spare cash (i know thats hard, especially when your trying to get out of debt) then go for it!

Bootsales are fab for picking up bargains... Well, some of them are - I've noticed a lot are turning more to antiques dealers and market traders

Have you done that unlimited thing with PayPal, with the two sets of numbers on your statement? Did that 2 weeks ago when I hit my limit... Can't say it's made much difference (apart from being able to move money around!)

I can't bear/bare (clever people - could you tell me which spelling is used here?!) to sit down and list when I could be on the beach... I'm off to get my wellies :D

Yeah i done that ages ago
What they wanted from me was photo ID, a copy of a utility bill, suppliers contact info, invoices for items i have sold and tracking numbers for my last 20 transactions

Word of warning if you do use Ebay/Paypal - keep all your invoices of items you have purchased - i was asked to provide an invoice for an item i brought 2 years ago!!
Also send everything recorded delivery so you have a tracking number, if you dont then PayPal will always find the buyer in favour if they say they never received it
What i also do is everytime i ship an item i add the tracking ref to the transaction on PayPal - most people dont know that its there but its under the details section
This will save you having to provide them should PayPal ever request them
