    Morning everyone:D

Didnt sleep that well last night as DD woke up about 2am and came into my bed. She really does fidget!! She is fast asleep now bless her.

This morning we are having breakfast at dd's school a kind of meeting to see how the kids are getting on since they started in september.....free brekkie....love it!:D

Have looked at spreadsheet this morning, made my pad of £1.05 into money pot:) Now I have added the payments to the regular saver into mmoney, I have a clearer picture of next years money:) Im def going with the 'pay yourself first method' Im hoping that doing this will automatically make me spend less!

There are other savings accounts im looking into just need to jiggle the figures around some more:)

Aiming for another NSD today. After brekkie at dd school and post office run, I will be coming home and not going near a shop for the rest of the day!

DS gave me his passbook last night and £40 to pay in the bank when im next in town......just like his mother:D Im so proud!!!!

  • Morning Jamie!

There's no sleep to be had when they get in bed with you ....

I'm very into my savings accounts. I do "piggybanking". In LloydsTSB I have four savings accounts "Cash Reserve", "School Trips", "Drama Fees", "Holiday". Then over on Egg I have their high interest e-saver for Christmas Funds.

Can you explain the "pay yourself first method"?

    Ta!

    morning cat:)

i love savings accounts lol, just wish i had more money to save in them:D

pay yourself method is where you allocate an amount to save per month (10% or what ever) on payday that gets transferred into the savings account. then bills etc come out of account and what you have left is what you live on. it works for me although you do have to watch that just because you allocate say 10% that you will spend all the remainder in the account after bills have come out when possible you could have saved more.

what i tend to do because of this is work out everything that will come in and out of the account on a particular month and push myself to save more so that i feel the pinch slightly. this means i have to come up with more ways to stretch the money, ie going out etc, trying to find things to do that are cheap or free, have friends round instead of paying for a sitter to go out. bulk buying to save money on groceries, making most meals from scratch. trying to make things last twice as long, quidco, amazon, ebay, vouchers, pigsback etc.

we never do without, but with thought we make do on a lot less! this means for example that the 10% original decided on, may now reach 15% or 20%

Personally 45% of my income is allocated to debt repayment/savings and when all the debt has gone, I should with clever planning be able to put that 45% all into savings:D Last month was a slack month:( but we all have these now and again!

    hope this helps x

  • Oh thanks for explaining that. I do this already - on payday I portion off a set amount to each designated savings account (it's the only way I can afford things like Christmas). After that I put all my own cash into my reserve savings account and then just transfer it across as I spend. We have a separate account for bills which my OH pays into on his payday - he's very traditional in that he pays the rent and bills.

At the end of the month it's interesting to see how much I've managed to keep in the reserve savings account. After our next holiday I'm not gonna book another but try to save more for a year.
