What 'luxury' can you not give up?

Those of you who smoke - if you're trying to give up, make an appointment with your GP. Some NHS practices will give you free nicotine patches if you go to a "Smoking Cessation" clinic. The idea is this will cost the NHS less than your smoking related illnesses - so they're moneysaving too?! If you have to pay prescription charges, I don't know how this works out cost-wise - do you get a weeks worth of patches for your £6.50 prescription charge? Might be worth working out though - better for your health too!
Waxing - have you ever tried an epilator? I'm sure a "SatinIce" one is on offer somewhere just now, and they often do a moneyback offer on them. Mine cost approx £30, paid for itself within 6 weeks and it's brill! It works in the same way to waxing, but the beauty is that you can use it yourself, whenever you want. The pain factor is about the same as waxing, but it lessens with time. It only takes about 10 mins to do both legs, last as long as wax, and you don't have to buy any consumables (wax, strips etc) to operate it. Doesn't take your tan (real or fake) off either.0 -
I can not give up watching rugby league - sadly I support Widnes so am clearly stupid and have far more money than sense. Of those facts I am certain.0

I'm afraid we still have quite a few luxuries, a cinema pass each (£10.99/month each), Andrex loo roll, Expensive Hair cut for me (every 6-8 weeks and I'm adding a colour to that next month, as the grey is starting to show). We go to the cinema at least once a week, so at least we get our monies worth out of it.0

Having just looked at my latest water bill  my long shower is FAST becoming a luxury
also looks like being warm all day will also become a "luxury" this winter............if all these price rises don't stop:mad: When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0 -
I have weak, brittle nails so acrylic gel nails every 3 weeks was a luxury. Now I buy 100 nail tips for £3, gel and acrylic for less than a fiver, and do it myself!
I also absolutely love smoothies - and at about £2 a bottle they're not cheap! Might buy a smoothie maker to combat that luxury!0 -
Squidgy wrote:Can't bring myself to use recycled loo roll. I'm always tempted by the price, but as I soon as I realise it's recycled it goes back on the shelf!
:rotfl: You do know it's not made from old loo roll, don't you?!!!!
My luxuries are wine at the weekends (but never more than £5 a bottle!!), quality fair trade tea, and books. I can't use the library instead, as books are like my babies, and I like to own every book I've read. Sad, but one day they'll be great wall insulation, when I'm old and can't afford the heating bills! I have a mix of new and second hand though, and love both equally. A lot of my groceries are organic, but I don't think of those as luxuries, more lifestyle choice.
And I don't use any chemical / artificial bodycare products, so it's quite a luxury to buy all natural face and bodycare, soap and toothpaste etc etc...0 -
I have a new one to add to the list - Lush 'Mittens' Handcream - OMG - So good, and smells so nourishing! I have dry hands and hate washing my hand and having nothing to put on them, but invariably my hands still feel dry.
I was walking past lush today and the smell kind of dragged me in, and a lovely lady suggested the handcream, and boy is it good! My nails already feel as if theyv'e been fed, and Ive only had the tub an hour! Ill never be using anything else again thats for sure!

Ocean Spray cranberry juice - cheaper just doesnt have the taste!
And CK be and Ghost serenity perfume, do sometimes use cheaper stuff but the compliments and confidence i get with the expensive stuff make it worth it (manual job leads to smelly jo if im not careful and the cheap stuffs smell doesnt last long enough) Always buy it on the cheap though through offers or ebay.0 -
Of course I KNOW that it's not made from used bog roll, it's just the word RECYCLED that puts me off!!!It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know0

To echo loadsabob - books are my downfall too. At the moment I am borrowing a few from the library at work, as it is convenient and I don't forget to take them back - but if i use a normal library I am so idle about taking them back I get HUGE fines.
So, I tend to buy books (in supermarkets, second hand or Amazon), because I love to own my books too, and I read and re-read them over and over again. They definitely earn their keep as it were! I love my books."It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."
