I was willing to try and get into Vista but it really is rubbish I am not short on memory but it still crashes with most browsers.

So you've actually got problems which aren't Vista in that case but like most people who think they actually know what they're on about, you jump on the "Vista is rubbish, I'm gonna upgrade to XP." bandwagon.

I expect you to be posting when you get your CD that you can't install it because when it reboots during the installation it comes up with Invalid Operating System even after you've completely wiped the hard drive including having to destroy the recovery partition - hope you've created a Restore DVD.

I know why but I'll save telling you why and how to sort it until the inevitable post appears.

Just to let you know, double check with Dell before you downgrade. On some machines they will not support you unless you have the original specification software that you bought the pc with.

A better option would be to meet the optimised specs for running Vista which is 1gb ram for Vista Home and 2gb for the rest. I am running about 4 computers all with Vista in my office and all have 2gb ram. Running smoothly.

It may be of no help, but I have Vista on four computers, and the only one to ever crash has been the one with a rubbishy usb wireless dongle thingy, if it's unplugged it never crashes, so it could be a hardware issue that does not like vista, if it is, the manufacturer should never have put vista on the computer in the first place. Dell, you have to love 'em.

Built a computer, installed Vista on it, only problem is "black screen with mouse pointer" sometimes when logging on
  • Windows Vista Bussiness isn't the same as the other versions hence the name. Its designed for bussiness use rather than general.

I've been running Vista from thre start and never had a bit of trouble.

XP will not be supported for ever no matter have much people moan about Vista being worse that XP. Get over it times do change.
Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best

Just because it's free don't mean it's good

    Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:

Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right ;)

My problem is That HP are sellinmg machines with Vista home premium and the PC only has 512mb of RAM.

Thats the problem, Vista may be good but we have not seen that side of it cos it just keeps crashing or hanging cos of the lack of ram.

Surely its up to HP to sort this out for us either by Downgrading us to XP or Upgrading us to 1GB of ram.

Actually it is exactly the same, minus some media components, and plus some advanced netorking components.

Vista is fine running for over 1 yr on trusty 1.6Mhz and 1Gig ram. All high quality compoments. Not a problem. It ran win2K XP Pro and Vista Ultimate. M$ is to stop support in June anyway according to my latest podcast news.

We got a new toshiba laptop at Christmas, with Vista.

It will not play DVDs, or the Vista ready games.

So we have to use the old pc for these.
We all know what we should do, we just don't know why we don't do it.
