thanks again. But I am not a member of the AA or RAC. How much would this inspection cost me?

I can understand your concern because to my knowledge and experince all car dealers are crooks!!!!

I do apologise for what happened to your car.

Heavenlygee, don't worry I am taking note of all comments that I have rec'd x
  • Hi

They can't do this. I had a similar problem and I was told it was a wear and tear problem with my car. All dealers do this. It's a scam.
Basically they'll do all they can to make you pay.
I instructed a independent car examiner from my RAC policy and got a written report from them to say that it was not wear and tear and the garage were fully aware of the problem when they sold me the car.
Don't give up. I went to the dealer and kicked a real fuss. I approached potential car buyers on their forecourt and told them not to buy a car from them. Trust me this did the trick.
    Good Luck.
  • I am having a similar problem, only my car that I bought in August this year came with a 3 month warrenty which has now expired. To my horror 1 month out of warrenty the damn thing is falling apart. The exhaust is blowing, the alternator belt is screeching, the water pump is failing, it needs a new cam belt and it revs like made oh yes and the door hold fell off. I have been told tough. The car is a 2003 Renault Laguna 1.9 dci Diesel. It was serviced just before I purchased it and it had a 12 month mot. The reason I sold my old car was becasue it was costing me a fortune in repair bills. Is there anything I can do or is it sadly as they have said tough. Is a car really only expected to last 3 months. I paid over £4000 for this car and it looks like it is going to cost me over a £1000 now to repair it with all the labour costs. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Claimed back almost £4000 so far from HSBC for mis-sold PPI
£2083.00 + £242.00 8% interest from FirstPlus and lower monthly premiums:D Studio Cards paid off my account and gave me £125.00 in gift vouchers. £500.00 Barclays.

Why do you think you only have 3 months of a warranty?

It is down to the garage to prove the faults were not there at time of purchase within the first 6 months. Tell the garage you are not making a claim under their warranty but claiming against them under the sale of goods act. IF they refuse to put the defects right then take the car to an independent garage, get a quote for the work and then go through the small claims court to recover this amount. Lots of threads on how to do it on here, it's not difficult.

why does it 'need' a cambelt? you mean its due a cambelt change?
if so the waterpump can be changed with the cambelt
the alternator belt can be retentioned at the same time

    Cam belt wear item.

    Waterpump wear item

    Belts wear item.

Did you complain when you discovered that it needed more fuel for further use than it came with?

Demand compensation for parts of car than need to be changed now and then!!!

Be prepaired to be laughed out of court.

Thats like saying you drove a car, trashed it and want your money back or a free repair.

I plan to never service my car and just sue the garage when it stops working.

We must all stop these rip off merchants!!

Oh here we go again, I see the ugly sisters have stopped rehearsing for the pantomime today and so have dropped in on this thread!!

Without any further details further from the op I had to take the post on face value, the cambelt may well be just due a change, the water pump it seems has had some sort of failure, the garage that sold the car is responsible for selling a road worthy and fault free car. A blowing exhaust is not fault free!!!

All parts on cars could be said to be wear items, but it is reasonable to expect those items that have worn to be replaced by the selling garage before selling the car.

As for being laughed out of court, well, just to let you into a bit of a secret, last month I took Olympic warranties to court over their failure to pay for a failed brake calliper, they said this was a wear and tear item, but as only one failed on a car that had only done 80k miles I contested that this was not the case. The warranty company accepted liability and paid in full within 7 days!! So maybe, Tweedle dum and Tweedle dee you will keep your unhelpful comments to your selves in future (but I doubt it)
