  • Loving this thread :D

Wine used to be posh (child of the fifties  ) lol.

The only time I ever saw wine when I was (relatively) old enough to drink ;) was what was known as "Wine from the Wood".

People took their own wine bottles to the off-license and it was filled from a barrel. Lord knows what was put into it, or where it even came from  but after trying it, it took me years and years to even look at a glass of wine again :D

You sure that was wine or sherry? LOL! I remember my mum taking Ben Shaws lemonade bottles to the offy and bringing them back full of this lovely pale coloured liquid that we weren't allowed to touch, which I found out later was sherry ;)

  • Ben Shaws Lemonade -- I haven't heard those 3 words for over 30 years! it was wonderful stuff - and in proper bottles that you took back to the shop for 3d
  • What did I find posh as a kid

Pink candlewick bedspreads ... sheer luxury compare to the nylon quilted efforts

Vesta chinese packet meals ... only parents were allowed to eat them on special occasions on a Saturday night LOL!

Having a whole fish to myself when we had fish 'n' chips instead of sharing one with a sibling ...

Our first brand new three-piece suite after having g'parent's hand me downs with a few years wear left in them ;)

And don't even talk about brown and orange stuff!!!

The company is still in operation and is based in Huddersfield, or at least it was 4-5 years ago ;)

It was proper yellow lemonade though wasn't it (well more like a urine sample colour LOL!) not the rubbish clear crap you get these days, and the dandelion and burdock was to die for mmmmmmmmm <sigh> ;)

I think you still get money back on the bottles too!!! 10p or maybe even 20p these days :j

  • Blimey C_Q you've taken me back! yes, it was a pale yellow and I used to love dandelion and burdock pop. I think I've seen bottled water now under their name produced at Fountain Head if memory serves
  • I bought loads of it when I was pregnant. I think it's 20p return on the bottles. Shame more companies aren't doing that. Much better environmentally.

And as for pink candlewick bedspreads... Oh they WERE something special! :D Snuggly, soft AND ideal for picking all the little bits out of. :o

OK who mentioned new cars?

My Dad had a selection on vans/cars/pick ups and bangers..... :o The front of our house was like the Dingles _pale_. Every other week he would come home in a different vehicle which would be described as 'it'll be nice when it's done'....... problem was, when it was 'done' he flogged it so we only had the crappy ones.

If Dad took me to school I would hide in the footwell in case my friends saw me (:o oh the shame). My Dad used to p!ss himself laughing as I moved bits of gearbox out of the way to crouch under the dashboard :(

My friends parents all drove nice clean cars with air fresheners, travel rugs and boxes of tissues My god they were SOOOOOO posh!!!!!.......... my Dad's transport of choice was a Sherpa van with holes in the floor (great cos you could poke your apple core through when you'd finished ..... :D ).
Just run, run and keep on running!

LOL. I vaguely remember drinking it .... and vowed never to drink again ;) Unless it was ice-cream soda flavoured :D

But as for Ben Shaw's? That was sold in a shop near the park we all went to as kids - and it was sold in tuppence and fourpence worth sizes. I don't think the re-usable plastic containers were ever washed lol, and 'containers' is a bit of a misnomer .... they contained an inch or two of pop, if you were lucky (or rich!) :D

Ohhhh those were the days lol, thirsty and hungry :D
