I guess old underpants are just as good.
This comment in the Obvious Tips thread from Greenstuff (thanks Greenstuff) brought so many memories of what I thought 'rich' people had when I was a kid in the 1960's - all these things are so commonplace now - like
electric lawnmowers
chocolate biscuits wrapped in foil
fridge
car
bedside lamps
rubber gloves
outside taps for a hose
matching saucepans
steam iron
matching undies
potato peeler
freezer
colour TV
more than one TV
bought dishcloths (not home knitted!)
edit - they're all rushing back now - what about
proper cream, not Carnation
showers
bubble bath
shampoo -Fairy Liquid did for both of these
fresh salmon
anyone else got any memories of what used to be posh but today is taken for granted?

We had/have rich relatives (they still live in a very posh area) who had a colour television in a mahogany cabinet with doors.......ours was black & white, no fancy cabinet. They also had a bedside telephone. They used sponges to wash with, not a flannel like us. They had a proper large dining table in a dining room........we had a small kitchen table.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Automatic washing machine and tumble drier - my mum had a twin tub until I was about 20!
Central heating - I thought it was quite normal to have frost on the inside of our bedroom window; social services would be involved if this happened today.
Inside toilet
Shower
Duvets
Fitted sheets
Shower gel
Toilet paper in a colour to match the bathroom
Gym membership
A PC at home
A 'music centre' in a huge cabinet in a corner of the lounge
A Patio (as opposed to a back yard)
Funny though, we were very happy as kids and didn't feel at all deprived! Wonder how our kids would feel about these things now?

This is a fun thread :T
Thinking back to my childhood, my rich friends' families had -
fitted kitchens
automatic washing machines
jumpers from M&S instead of hand-knitted ones
soft loo paper
vinyl flooring in the kitchen rather than lino
a freezer
ice-cream in it
foreign holidays
colour TV
modern furniture (Ercol, G Plan) instead of granny's Edwardiana
two cars - my best friend's mother racketed around in a Mini which I thought was wonderfully glamorous0 -
A bathroom
Indoor loo (we shared an outdoor loo with 3 other families)
Car
Bought clothes
Handy Andies(packets of tissue)
colour telly
A piano
school uniform in the infants(you didnt have to have it)
toilet paper not newspaper squares
more than one pair of shoes
childrens clubs(cubs/swimming/cadets etc)
school trips abroad
musical instrument lessons
posh food
broccoli and kale0 -
New clothes (can you tell I am youngest of three?!?!)
Carrier bags (we had those little nylon zip up affairs carried in mum's handbag)
Jammie dodgers
Fizzy drinks
Microwaves
A video machine
a shower
mmmm seems like a blissful childhood - how did we manage?!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 002 :rotfl:0
