A lot more realistic? House prices are at their lowest in years. Also, being a FTB at the moment is a huge advantage as people want quick transactions, and there's much much less chance of the sale falling through.
We were extremely lucky to come into some money and used that as a 10% deposit. Just waiting for it all to go through now!First Time Buyer: Mortgage Offered, Searches complete, Exchanged 21/12/2012, Completion 04/01/2013! :beer:0 -
I personally think they're still far too high, but whether they will drop further in price, we will have to wait and see.
Best of luck in your new home!0 -

Well done on having saved so much!
I think whether prices will rise/fall stay the same is very dependent on region, and even specific area.
Not that I'm ready to buy just yet, but in my city over all prices seem to be falling a little, but in the area I am looking at in the next few years (if all goes to plan) seems to be a bit more stable, and although not rising, don't seem to be falling much either, and have been fairly consistent over the last couple of years.
- Just keep an eye on sold prices (not asking prices) in the areas you are interested in so that when you're ready to make an offer on somewhere you know what's realistic for where it is.
Good luck everyone on their savings for next month.

Thought I'd finally say hello on here. Having now cleared our debts, partner and I are now putting our heads down towards a deposit for our first home. We currently live in my parents old property, so are thankfully don't pay much rent/bills. I'm in my final year of uni though, so most of the savings are from OH at the moment!
We're hoping to save as close to £15,000 asap.0 -

So I have saved another £500 towards my deposit, however have my daughter's birthday party to pay for so cost will come out of savings and some other gifts to pay for.
The plus point is that I am planning xmas spends to manage and start buying presents when i see deals to save money in the long run.
I am being enticed to go on winter trip, ooooh very tempting.Continue saving

Hi All,
Little update for me. I've set myself a new target to reach £30k by the end of the year. I dont now realistic its going to be but at least it gives me something to work towards. I've been making the most of free ebay listings. Next few months will be difficult saving with Christmas coming up but I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling the pinch!

Very exciting thread this and I wish I'd found it sooner!!
We've been saving for the last year - including some of our wedding present money we have a suitable deposit together.
We've seen a place in a lovely area, it's the smallest house down the street but has so much potential we both fell in love with it. Every house down the street has been extended and I really see this place as a home for life.
So we put an offer in and It's been accepted! We are now going through all the costs and what not and boy does it add up! I think it'll cost us another 3-4k just to buy the house! Which considering I want to keep the deposit at a suitable level means we'll have to rely on another couple of pay days before the house completing.0
