I've been contemplating getting off the rental threadmill, but, well, the more I read up on it, the more it seems as if now's not the time. However, I've taken the view that some time will be the right time, so I had better start saving.
So, I've got a long-term plan (see sig), unless a shorter term one suddenly reveals itself.
What I'm wondering: are there any single people on here, struggling toward getting a mortgage, god forbid, on their own?!?!
So far, that's my situation, and I've begun to accept that, for now at least, I'm going to have to be in it for the long haul.
Any folks out their indentifying with what I'm saying?
When i saw your intended saving target of £75k, i thought good lord that's a bridge too far for me. But it's a nice thought if I entertain it.0 -
I'm probably back up about £2000 again.. But won't know for sure for a bit as inevitably there are a few random things popping up that spoil the apple cart, plus food & fuel continue to steadily get more expensive so there is a need to recalculate my budgeting for these.
Still... At least I'm out of debt and have removed a couple of my larger monthly outgoings.:www: Progress Report :www:
Offer accepted: £107'000
Deposit: £23'000
Mortgage approved for: £84'000
Exchanged: 2/3/16

Can i join in please???
Went to see a mortgage advisor today to get an idea of how much we could borrow etc and to get an idea of how much to save.
As we want to move out ASAP we are looking at saving 10% deposit plus some for fees.
So our new target is £17,000 for now.
Oh and I'm really impressed at how much some people have managed to save! wish I could save like that!0 -
Well it's been a while since I was in here, but things have changed. I was out of work for a long while last year, so unable to save, now I'm going on holiday and have used my deposit fund for that, as well as car things. I have a job now though, so as soon as I am able to I will be saving again.0

Had a little blip as booked a 5 day trip to Prague (but used TopCashBack for flights and hotel and got the cheapest deal on trivago! At £350 for cost so far and that includes our breakfasts)

Just out of curiousity how many premium bonds do you have?
I ask because i brought a single premium bond in 07 and was thinking about redeeming it for cash. your premium bonds are a cash equivalent asset and therefore you could add them to your total.
p.s. i haven't thought about any locations and i won't until i hit at least £25k
I have 6,625 in Premiun Bonds and they are included in my total already. Thanks for the tip though.
After putting £50 into my savings this mth, (I knew it was going to be a poor mth) My Grand total now stands at £7176.56
And my Boyfriend has just informed me to work out how much I'm missing for a deposit and he'll top me up  so so tempting but I wanna go solo, I mean if we break up etc what would happen?Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!0 -
Well, February was a complete wash out as far as saving went, because we decided to buy a car. A very unglamorous 14-year old car, but it still cost the month's savings.
March, on the other hand ...:D:D:D
I got a small payrise - only inflation but still the first I've had in years, and I got a small but very welcome bonus too (also the first since the recession hit.) OH got a temporary promotion - no extra pay with it yet, but there'll be a lot more if it becomes permanent so fingers crossed there. He also got some backpay he was owed from a previous job. And I won £150 of groceries too :T
Some of the money went on a night out celebrating, but I think that was justified (and we used a special offer).Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
House buying: Finished!
Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0
