well we're still moving so savings are sorta on hold because we don't know how much it's gonna cost us getting stuff ready however we're currently at £4231, my mini target was £4k by easter before we decided to try move so we managed that, hoping for another £9k this year if not more :) will have a look at targets and update them once i've moved.

  • Hey everyone.

Can I join back in? I did start this saving for a deposit but we needed to do some house repairs in order to make our current home more sellable for the future so we are back to a big fat 0. Although we had only reached £1700.

So as of today a new journey begins. Hoping for £500pcm in a good month with no other major expenses so we shall see.

We will have a little equity in our current home when we go to sell which im looking at for fees etc so Im not going to really count that in our savings :)

Thanks everyone, u guys are an inspiration

Quick question for everyone on here..

Do you do anything to help increase the amount you can save? e.g. what do you cut back on or do you get some extra income from somewhere?

Just interested In any ideas of how to get my deposit together a bit sooner!

    Cheers

    Oh can I join too?

I currently own a house but as I moved with work and have now married and settled in another part of the country rent it out. It was my first house and have decided to keep it for now as a bit of a pension pot.

But now I'm married we want to buy our own house. I've got £15,500 which I want to up to around £20 or if possible £25k.

We're currently renting, at a ridiculous price, but our contract expires in May and its no longer convinient for either of us where we are. So we're thinking of moving and reducing our rent costs by up to £500 per month! Although there will be costs to move to another rented for hopefully only 6 months it could in the longer term save us money. Not sure what to do. :(

In the meantime I'm decluttering the house and selling our clutter to boast our deposit pot :) So hopefully we'll have a healthy deposit and a clutter free new home! :j
Turning our clutter to top up our house deposit: £3000/£303.05 we're on our way!

The last time me and my fiance went out together drinking or for a meal was just before Christmas, and I've only been out once since with the girlies. That also means I've stopped buying going out clothes so we've really managed to put a fair bit away by being hermit like.

I really do have to keep reminding myself how worth it will be - especially the nice weather last week when I wanted to go and sit outside the pub after tea.

But the pennies do soon start mounting up and it does make me quite OCD checking the bank balance and seeing if I can move anymore pounds across, no matter how few.
2013 - Finally got the house we' ve worked so hard to get......now it's a life of diy and no money....couldn't be happier 😊
2020 - mortgage free target set 8 years and counting 🎯
Even the longest walks start with one small step....get your boots on.

There's a whole part of the forum dedicated to this but a good place to start is to write out a budget or do a statement of affairs and see what you can cut out. Do things like swapping to the cheapest energy provider, make less car journeys, buy slightly cheaper food brands etc. - there's tons more but I've forgotten the name of the forum section, sorry!

Our savings have taken a nose dive this week. I've paid off some old outstanding debt and some more current debt in order to put us in the best possible chance of getting a mortgage. Unfortunately, this means our savings have gone down from almost 32% to just over 23% :(

I'm still waiting for some wages owed from last month and have started a 2nd job also so should be able to boost our savings pretty well at the end of this month.
