Hi! I'd like to join in, this year I'm focusing on my house savings
I'd really like to be in my own home (renting at the moment) by the end of the year, but we'll see how it goes!
My aim is to own the roof over my head by the time I'm 40, and as I'll be 36 this year , that's a lot of scrimping and saving! I'm trying to get a large deposit together for a cheap flat. My income varies a lot and I don't want to have too large repayments then struggle during low income months. So my claculations are based on a 10 year mortgage which gives repayments similar to my current rent, then I plan to overpay as much as possible to pay it off in a few years.
But first, I've got to get that deposit together!Refusing to Sit Down & Shut Up since 19740 -
Hi There. Everyone is doing so well. And I'm gonna join in for 2010. We're saving like mad so we can extend our current house. Whilst its fine at the moment, I honestly don't think DS will fit lengthways in his bedroom much past the age of 10. Anyway, we reckon a 2 storey extension is going to cost a frightening £80k. That includes the new kitchen, moving boiler, flooring, moving gas meter, moving drains yardy yardy yarda. Hopefully, we'll have some change from £80k but I don't want to start then run out of money and get into debt because of it. So, we're going to start building in spring 2013 which gives us 3 years to save £80k. Ha ha ha ha ha. Not possible on our budget so we'll have to add some to the mortgage (but at least we won't have the upheaval and cost of moving). We are really going all out to try and save £36k by then. We may manage more but I know from my budget that £36k is attainable. Here goes (and I'll update my sig each time I post).
Good luck in 2010 everyone.MFW Challenge 2019 - £2,420 / £2,420 - 100% :T0 -
Hi,
I am still very motivated by this thread.
I currently have around 12K saved and am aiming for 15K. Fingers crossed I achieve my goal.
This recession is making it very hard though.0 -
Will be putting 3.5K in to the savings account on Monday, up to 93.5K.
100K target by 1st of march, then interest payments on savings (3%) on 1 April....
We have decided to carry on saving for now, whilst putting really cheeky offers in the local area, nice properties that have been on the market for over 1 year, and newbuilds that are struggling to sell.0 -
I have added another £461 since my last post. That included money from babysitting last night.0

Hi everyone,
I am a single person saving for a deposit.
I've not posted in this thread for a while but i have nearly reached my 30k target and hope to be there or there abouts in May.
Now it is getting closer i am wondering if my wage is good enough to live off once i have a mortgage because i still want to enjoy life and not just exist to pay for my house.
Does anyone know of any "help tools" that would help me work out the outgoings on electric, gas & water etc.. once i have moved in.
Thanks and well done everyone

Hello all, Happy New Year!
I am going to make 2010 the year for saving and getting straight. I am especially in awe of you guys and how much you have accrued.
I only graduated in July and had a difficult few years at uni trying to get by. As a result I amassed £2700 in overdraft - ARGH.
I have been with my boyfriend in a long distance relationship for 3.5 years now and we are going to move in with one another but we want to save between £20-30k first. He's doing well and has saved £4k so far, but I have only put away £500 this month!
Oh well, I am going to try so so hard!Overdraft of £2000 from 2200 reduced - Lloyds Graduate Account
Overdraft of £500 - Halifax Current Account
01.01.2010
Target Savings 10k so far: 7% saved, 13% on Jan 30th0 -
Getting very close now - 94.3% of £70k saved. Its been a tough 4 months but things are getting back on track!0
