I use MSE's travel money maximiser here and always get a great rate. Used the Post Office online order last week and got a much better rate than at the local branch. Even got Quidco too!

Does anyone know of a London based Euro cash machine where I will be able to use my Nationwide debit card? My local Tesco's had one but it was removed recently and I also thought a local M&S had one - unfortunatly it was a fixed (and poor) exchange rate:confused: .

But if you pay with your card there is a cash advance fee by the card issuer.

    Advice please!!!!

We are going to Egypt soon on an All Incl. holiday but still need to take some cash. We were going to change our money into Egyptian pounds but have since been advised by a friend to take English money instead as they accept English currency and it actually works out to be cheaper paying this way??

Does anyone know if this is correct???

    Thanks

Both Tesco and Marks and Spencer are not charging for foreign currency bought with either of their cards (from them of course). M&S are also offering a £10 voucher.

This is a Euro currency thread so I will point you in the direction of a recent relevent thread.

It often pays to do a form search before you ask a question ;)

There are conflicting views on this matter but I'm sure you can draw your own conclusions as to what would be best for you.

Hi dont pay in English as you will lose out. How do you know they will use the correct exchange rate?
I always take English and change it into LE as the exchange rate is always better in Egypt. You can change some at the bank booths at the airport on arrival. Alot of ATMs now accept sterling cash ( did this last week ) and it changes it into le but the rate will be lower than the banks. Last week it was quite low at 10.48 ( last yr every trip was over 11 ) at the banks and ATMS was 10.28. Check here for the current exchange rates in Egypt which are set http://www.cbe.org.eg/ If you take cc / debit cards make sure you tell your bank where and when you are travelling or they may block your card. Check their charges as well some are free but some charge at least £1.50 per transaction. The money is filthy so take and use antibac handgel. An easy way to work it out is to just drop the 0 eg 10le is approx £1, 100 le is approx £10. Most of their money is in notes. 25 and 50 piastres ( 2.5 and 5p ) 1le ,5le, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 le notes.
