I think Euro has quit falling vs sterling. However RBS did announce they believe QE is over for UK which would help continue sterling strength0

How do i check the exchange rate I woud get on my nationwide card if I used it today. Nationwide now charge 2% for purchases and 2% + £1 fee for an ATM withdrawal. Without being able to compare the rate i get on my card to the cash rate ( now from 1.23-1.25), how can I work out what is best.0

After a quick search of this and a few other forums here, I found no mention of this so, if I missed something, do point me in the right direction and accept my apologies.
In the Times money section of Saturday last there was, what I thought to be, an interesting article by Patrick Hosking, the Financial Director about this topic and it seems that, in the event of it becoming necessary (ie the euro actually crashes), one of the thoughts around of how to manage a return to individual currencies eg lira, drachma, franc etc is for euros to be valued via their country of origin identifying mark - which is something I didnt know existed - and the exchange rates allowed to float freely.
Nope, I for one didnt know that all euros werent identical. Each note has a serial number and the first letter of this identifies the central bank of the country issuing the note eg euros with an X-prefix show that they were issued in Germany, those with a Y were issued in Greece and so on through the different member states.
No prizes for guessing which could be worth more if the euro did crash and this particular way of deciding value were adopted. For anyone buying euros, it might just be worth checking the country of origin - and making sure yours are from a valued central bank. The article carried a list of the different pre-fixes.0 -
