    Hi guys,

I'm off to Dublin this weekend- any advice on where to get the best euro exchange rate, or am I just better off using an ATM when I get there?

Probably it depends on your cards and place of arrival and place of departure.
See main site where different cards are analysed.

(Are we the only family which always has a small float of Euro and Dollars for out of hours diversions to outlandish ports of entry?)

    Hi.

I bank with Santander and have been informed that i can use my Santander card while in spain without fees if i withdraw from a santander cashpoint.

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=44926240&postcount=2

Is there a way i can find out in advance what euro rate i would get if i took money out while in Spain..?

    Many thanks.

No-one can say in advance what the exchange rate will be in the future. Santander might be able to tell you what rate they would apply today.

    Almost certainly.

I've always got a better rate at the ATM than anywhere else, since you usually get the merchant rate, i.e whatever visa or mastercard or whoever it is pay for the foreign currency

Just got our Halifax credit card statement for June 2011 for our spending in France, we got between 1.12 and 1.14 € to the £, mostly 1.13 and no charges.

STERLING/EURO: Sterling benefitted from a marginal uptick in UK services sector activity, but gains are likely to be limited.
    • The services sector figure was expected to show a slight decline the pace of growth, but investors were relieved to learn that momentum actually picked up ever so slightly. Still these, remains concerning levels of growth. In light of recent growth data, any second quarter GDP figure (released on the 26th of this month) above 0.3% would be a decent result.
    • This pair has been helped by a Portuguese debt downgrade this morning. Some poor German factory orders data may also dampen demand for the euro today. However, with the ECB rate rise just a day away now, risks look to be to the downside for this pair once eurozone fears stabilize.
Basically, the Pound has inched up a tiny amount on the back of some marginally positive services growth data and the fact that Moodys have downgraded Portugal to 'junk' status.

Currently tracking at 1.116 so your rate from the bank will be .1 or .2 below this figure.
