Anyone know what the Abbey Visa Debit Card is like for withdrawing cash abraod. Going to Greece.

i know there is quite a big difference between some banks.

    Thanks

Abbey charge commission and other fees on their debit card. However the main problem I have found with Abbey debit cards is that Abbey will block your card very quickly, even if you use your correct pin at a bank ATM. They automatically assume fraud.

One of the reasons I got a Nationwide card is their lack of fees for withdrawals from ATM's abroad but the main reason was to have two cards in case one got blocked. It happened so often it became a major problem.

Do Nationwide pay EXACTLY what the trading rate is?
I was looking at my transactions abroad last Summer, and it seemed very close to the trading rate at that time.

I am but need to take cash out when Im there. I have spoken to them about that and they said just to give them a ring and let them know when you are on holiday.

On there website it just says a 1.75% transaction fee. Which I would be ok with if they are using the visa exchange rate.

Are you saying there are other fees or hidden extras I should be weary off? Thanks

  • I've set up a MoneySavingExpert Fantasy Football League for anyone that might be interested....

We are up to about 20 entrants now, so looking good.

Tomorrow is my last day before holiday, but you can still enter right up until Premiership season starts.

FREE to enter - with some good prizes from Sky if you get lucky.

    Here is the link:
    http://fantasyfootball.skysports.com/

    - Firstly, you will need to pick your team, and name it. (please use the nickname you have on here, so we know who is who)
    - Once you have done this, go to 'My Team', and scroll down to 'Private Leagues'
    - Then click on 'Enter New League'
    - Then scroll down to 'Joining an Existing League'
    - Here is where you type in the 'MoneySavingExpert' League Pin: 2822

    Good Luck everyone
    Regards
    IM

PS. For those that have already entered, the transfer facility is now working if you need to tweak your team at all...
