I made a huge pea and veg soup in the slow cooker overnight.

Kept waking up smelling the soup.

DH had a huge helping before he set off for work at 8a.m.

DD wants some when she gets home from work and I would like some myself if they leave me any.

Feel quite overcome as everyone is telling me how much better they have been eating lately and enjoying their food.

I did not think that I was bad before - but now that I am cooking home made pizzas, jam ,chutney and my own bread - they do not know what has come over me!

It is all thanks to the site and all the help and advice

    Thanks everybody :A

I know most people must think us SAHM's have it easy but if you have little ones then looking after them is usually a full time job, I can't remember a time when I've actually started a job and finished it completely uninterrupted. I've usually had two "mum, I need a wee", four "mum I want a drink", 3 "can I have something to eat", before I've even got halfway through anything I start.

Moggins, just to let you know that I think SAHM's have one of the hardest and most important jobs in the world!!! I have no children, and don't think I'll be having any. Like Jo, I'd love to be a SAHM with no children, just a cat! I guess that means I'd like to be a kept woman! My boyfriend says I'm with the wrong man!!

But my Sister in Law has a terrible time saying to people that she stays at home. They seem to think she's taking advantage (of who? her husband? Because they're not on any benefits, just his wages, and he's quite happy with the situation). Being on here, finding so many people who proudly say they're SAHM's has given me the ammunition to give to her, to help her hold her head up high when people say "when are you going back to work?" (as they all assume she will), and say "I am at work. This is what I do now, I'm raising my child". Good on all of you!!

Blimey woman you're making me hungry at work
Know any good slow cooker recipe website that you all recommend?
Also which slow cooker I should buy?
I like to do my fair share on cooking and slow cooking seems easy to do.
My wife to be will be shocked if I turned up with a slow cooker and food to cook with.
If she find out this website converting me into a cook she will be buy you lot drinks all round!
So as a money saving precaution I won't book mark this site in case she does :-)
    While I breathe.... I hope

I love my Morphy Richards 6.5 litre slow cooker (approx£39 with free p and p from amazon.co.uk)

It is oval so will take a whole chicken or joint of meat and it makes the meat so tender it just falls off the bone. No waste!!!

It is big enough to be able to make about six portions of food - makes great curries and a fantastic "Cheats chicken lasagne" in it as well as soups and stews etc.

If you are out at work then you can put ingredients with boiling water or stock in the cooker before you leave for work and on a low setting it should be ready that night!

Or cook overnight if you can stand the smell of cooking as you sleep.

When I put my breadmaker on as well it is really tantalising as you get the two competing fragrances and a fresh loaf at 7a.m. or whenever you set the timer for.

There is a huge slow cooker and recipe thread on the site - have a look at it.:D

We have a collection of tried and tested slow cooker recipes which is in our Indexed Collections. Follow through the levels of Old Style Recipe links until you find it. You can look at the index of recipes, or join the thread at the beginning and read the comments on various machines too.

You can find it in our "Indexed Collections" sticky at the top of the forum listing, or you can follow the clue in my signature any time you see it or...

..you can use the Indexed Collections link in the Blue Bar at the top of every page which looks something like this:-

And don't forget, by the time the little darlings are 3, they always know when you have popped onto MSE and you get followed in with a little voice demanding "cbeebies" or "NickJr" website. Mind you, that means I have to go and do something else then, so maybe they are good for something after all :D:D

oh yes, been there, done that!!!

Dh is a budding chef-wannabe so he makes his breakfast bars for work and all kinds of goodies.

Don't mind me asking.....but what kind of bars does he make?

    And how????

I agree with you Loadsabob, that being a SAHM IS a proper job and a very important one at that. I hope to have kids in a few years time when we've shaved a bit of the mortgage off so OH could easily manage the repayments just on his salary, and we have both decided we want me to stay at home with the kiddies. So many people think it's all daytime TV but I know it's hard enough running round after the little ones let alone managing the housework!

I find it helpful to make a checklist of jobs I want to achieve on a particular day so it's down in black and white and I have the satisfaction of ticking the boxes when jobs are done.

We do a lot of housework on Saturdays as we both work FT (me with an additional part-time business and occasional voluntary work also) and OH is good about doing his fair share. During the week we do the minimum to get by- I will cook and he will wash up, but at weekends we will wash the clothes, hoover, clean bathroom and anything else that needs doing. Then its out of the way for another week.

I echo Jo in that I also rarely iron- I just hang the clothes inside out on the line so there's no peg marks, then keep them flat and unfolded when I take them in and hange them up straightaway on hangers and generally find only shirts and jeans need ironing. No-one has ever said anything about me being a scruffball (not to my face anyway!) and my mum is always surprised as she thinks my clothes look like they've been ironed.

I always have good intentions at work but when I actually get home I'm usually too knackered to do anything so just end up on here...
