  • I feel soooo much better having read this thread. I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles to get organised. My job takes me all over the place and I'm sometimes away for 2-3 days at a time so I don't often get much done during the week, and when I am home I catch up on sleep!

My tips for getting things done:

I do a big cook up at the weekends (sometimes actually cook 2 different meals at the same time, just so I can freeze lots of different portions) as always too tired to cook in the week.

When I do my weekly shop I don't put the veg away, I wash and chop it straight away and put it into portions (some in the fridge, some in the freezer) so it's ready to use.

I try to clean up one room per day (just 10-15 minutes before bed) so I never have to do a big weekend clean (unless my mother is visiting of course when the place needs extra dusting...)

Menu planning, list making and general 'organising' I do in the car as I spend a lot of time sat in traffic jams.

    Hope this helps!
  • Pleased it isnt just me that struggles!!

I have two jobs ....two kids....and find the thing that gets my goat the most is the washing and ironing!!

Meals im pretty well organised with and I make my own wine (been brambling today to actually make some from scratch!!)

I work sundays though which gives me a day off in the week and i usually tend to use this day to catch up on batch cooking and the dratted ironing!!

I wish I could be disciplined and do the ironing after tea each night but I dont and then every 3/4 days I have a pile that will take me 1to 2 hours to do!!

Also on my day off i do the unforgiveable!! I log into this site!! And then i tell my self I need to get on and do some chores and then the temptation gets the better of me and im on here again and so on and so on so dont get half the stuff done I wanted to!

Housework gets done when I think it looks dirty enough lol (kidding) ;)
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60

I must admit I don't iron, unless it really needs it or the kids uniforms. If dh wants anything then he usually irons it himself.

I know most people must think us SAHM's have it easy but if you have little ones then looking after them is usually a full time job, I can't remember a time when I've actually started a job and finished it completely uninterrupted. I've usually had two "mum, I need a wee", four "mum I want a drink", 3 "can I have something to eat", before I've even got halfway through anything I start.

And even though I don't work I couldn't exist without my calendar and filofax :(
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

when i first started to get a bit OS i read the threads and thought that i would never have time to make bread/cook from scratch etc etc. i;ve been really surprised that with a bit of planning and changing the way i do things means i CAN do it OS so we eat better and cheaper.

I certainly dont think SAHM's have it easy!! I dont have kids myself, but before I went to uni I took care of my brother, did part time OU, looked after the house and worked part time - as my mum was a single parent, and I can honestly say I was permenantly exhausted! Even though he was about 13 and there was only him to look after at the time, there was always something, whether it was homework help, wanting something to eat, "can we go here saturday"..... It was a mission trying to finish a job with the interruption - even something simple like putting laundry on the line!

Put me off kids for life, but i'd love to be a SAHM with no kids, just a cat!!

And don't forget, by the time the little darlings are 3, they always know when you have popped onto MSE and you get followed in with a little voice demanding "cbeebies" or "NickJr" website. Mind you, that means I have to go and do something else then, so maybe they are good for something after all :D:D

    LOL TM!!

My cat has a funny thing about my PC - she keeps coming up behind my chair, stands on her back legs and stretches up to tap me on the back, and if I ignore her, I get a single sharp claw into my spine - she's very precise!! Occassionally (if ive been bad!!??) she leaps onto my shoulder - but doesnt quite get there and hangs off my back - and usually leaves some quite disturbing slashes!

Not as bad as young'uns - but still!

I dont really do OS at all. I dont bulk cook as forget to and when I do as others say it gets eaten before I have chance to store it. But I do little bits of OS as and when I can. I feel ashamed at times though as I know I could do more OS but sometimes for energy and time I dont :o.

Like I say though I do things when I can. I make my own bread and things and partner 9 / 10 does * proper* home cooking for us. I have started making my own cards to send to people. I don't do ironing. I do washing when I have a full load etc. So I guess I do do OS jsut don't really givie it much thought.

I think its all about lifestyle really and planning and just plan around what you can do. Eg have sunday as a meal planning day and then maybe do a plan for housework like a room every other day.

Good luck with it and just try your best at OS you'll get tons of support from everyone.

Very proud that I managed to get up 15 mins early today to sort out the slow cooker before going to work. Boyf is coming over tonight and heads will roll if he claims he "doesn't feel like" curry. So if you hear of a bloke being decapitated in Stockwell by a crazed woman...

My mum popped over last night and gave me 9/10 for tidiness etc, which is high praise indeed so I must be doing ok-ish!
