I learned to get into a routine while I was at uni, and got things done in the quickest amount of time!
Now I have a routine for cleaning, big jobs get allocated one per night (Bathroom, full lounge clean, full bedroom clean, laundry) , and bedroom/lounges get a quick tidy each night (bins emptied, general tidy and wash dishes) - but then again I have the luxury of only having a cat and a boyf to take care of!
For meals, I find the best thing is to plan, and double cook a lot of things, so they are already in the freezer, and saves on the waste by knowing exactly what im doing when I get home from wherever. At most, I spend an hour cooking and half an hour cleaning a day - the rest of the time is my own to watch tv, and pursue my other o/s hobbies, like quilting and knitting, and chatting on here!

I used to work long hours and found that while the odd bit of tidying as I went along during the week was enough to keep things reasonable... on weekends I'd get up late and lazy on Saturday but then blitz the whole place from top to bottom (two up two down - easy peasy).
Then I could have Sunday off as a completely free ME day. Feeling good and relaxed about it because all the work was done and the place was clean and tidyHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Hey There
Im at home too 24/7 not due to choice but rather illness/disability etc
Realising that I have to accept this, the past few months I have tried to become more efficient, resourceful, practical and organised.
I meal plan normally about 10 days at a time(there is 3 of us), always check the freezer to see what there is and work around them, so normally know whats for dinner the next day etc-saves time. If its a slow cooker dish-this saves more time :j I have gone from £80+a week to about £30 a week. All paperwork is done and dusted as soon as post arrives-shredded or put into 2 different files. We do a 20 min clean blitz each morning, then one room from top to bottom a day. This works well and house is always tidy and clean(well normally anyway  ). Set days for bedding etc. I check my current account daily(takes 5 mns)against my quicken programme-just to make sure all things that should have gone in and out have done. All calls that need to be made are done as soon as DS is at school, also any correspondance replied too etc.
I do like routine. We are normally done around 10-11am, and washing will be done through the day and hung out etc.
I am lucky that my OH is at home being my carer, but then I cant do alot myself but do do as much as i canIm becoming great at delegating though. I just get frustrated as I used to work, drive, clean etc just 18 motnhs ago and now I find it difficult to stand up

I don't know how we're supposed to do it. I'm really in favour of a four day week, and I'd happily take a 20% pay cut in return for a three day weekend![/QUOTE]
I'm with you on that one!!! plus keep hoping I win some money on the lottery to be able to go part time!!0 -

As for the reast of them - if you click on the "Welcome to Old Style" sticky at the top of the forum listing (or on the blue "welcome" in my signature below) there's a pointer at the very bottom of that welcome post which takes you to our collection of abbreviations.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Our parents/grandparents didn't have telly and they didn't have computers. Nor did they have automatic washng machines or electric vacuum cleaners or dishwashers. Yet they still managed to do everything OS, and bring up families, and work full time. In my case, my dad also did foreigners (spare timers, moonlighting, or whatever else others call them) in his spare time, after his 50+hr working week, and my mom did a 45hr week then worked in a chip shop of an evening, and still we had a kitchen filled with baking and other home-cooked goodies. It all depends how OS you want to get though, eh? I think technology is brilliant, if you make it work for you. That said, I think people clock up far more miles doing everyday things now, which takes time. I'm starting a new job in Sept where I can walk to school -wow- and use the pool and gym there. This as opposed to 2hrs commute/day. Bit more quality time!0
