No, you don't need a land line for cable broadband, cable broadband comes through the same co-ax cable as the TV does or would if you had it.
No, you don't need a MAC when switching from cable broadband to ADSL, however your cable phoneline would be no good for ADSL as VM does not carry ADSL over their phone lines, you'd need a line connected to a BT exchange.
I didn't have a phone line with Cable for several years, the only reason I do now have a phone line is cable offered to install one free, free line rental, free calls package and free caller display along with discount on my TV and broadband for as long as I remain a customer.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
