Quinn Direct car insurance, driving other cars.

I am rather confused to whether or not i can drive other cars on my current insurance policy.
On their website it says the following:
If your certificate of insurance says so, we will also cover you, the
policyholder, for your liability to other people while you are driving
any other private motor car which you do not own or have not
hired under a hire-purchase or lease agreement, as long as:
1 the vehicle is not owned by your employer or hired to them
under a hire-purchase or lease agreement;
2 you currently hold a full European Union (EU) licence;
3 the use of the vehicle is covered in the certificate of
insurance;
4 cover is not provided by any other insurance;
5 you have the owner’s permission to drive the vehicle;
6 the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition;
and
7 you still have your vehicle and it has not been damaged
beyond cost-effective repair.
This extension applies while being driven within the territorial
limits and only to private passenger vehicles. It does not include:
* vans;
* car-vans;
* jeep-type vehicles with no seats in the back; or
* vans adapted to carry passengers.
On there FAQ's it also mentions this:
Provided you have a full EU licence, most of our policies cover the policyholder to drive someone else's car for third party only cover. Other restrictions may apply, please refer to your policy documents to confirm if this extension applies.
I have studied my insurance policy in great detail, i cant find any terms simply the following few sentences.
'the policyholder, if they have a full license, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any private motor car subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.'
Thats what is confusing me, "subject to the terms and conditions of the policy"
There are none i can visibly see that says i cant, but none apart from the above that say i can.
I thought i would give them a ring, but they closed at 4pm.
Sorry to bother you all but i need reassurance. My policy is only TPFT and being only 18 what are chances of them covering me to drive other cars. Surely theoretically i could drive anything?
Just there may be the chance i need to pick someone up from the airport in the early hours of tomorrow morning and my car is a bit small. My Dad has offered me his car but i am not sure.
Thanks,
Dan.

next to none. this is rarely offered to anyone under 25, is usually only on fully comp policies, and it would be clearly stated on your insurance certificate (not the policy booklet)
not worth the risk. get caught driving uninsured and that's your license gone.0 -
The sentences:
'the policyholder, if they have a full license, may also drive, with the permission of the owner, any private motor car subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.'
Is actually on my Insurance certificate opposed to the policy.
Still not sure.0 -

i'm amazed, but it sounds like you might be. i take it you're the policyholder?
can you not take your car?0 -
It also states i would be covered third party only in any other car i drove.
Not very easy to understand.
I could take my vehicle, not sure all their luggage would fit in though.
And yes i am the policy holder and main driver.0 -

certainly sounds like you have cover!
just bear in mind that if anything happened, your dad's car wouldn't be covered.0 -
Thanks for all your help.
I am very cautious and actually learned in the same type of car just need to be careful if i do take it,
thanks again,

Surely for this type of situation it would be best to be added on to the policy on a temporary basis - the driving other cars extention is really not for this type of situation but for REAL emergencies.
Phone YOUR insurance company and double check - I have woerked in motor insurance for a number of years and have never heard of an insurer that will offer this service for 18 year olds. for the cost of being added to your dads policy for the temporary cover will far outweigh the risk of an IN10 and 6 points0 -

Tinkerbell is right to urge caution because most insurers do only give this extension to over 25's and holders of comprehensive cover. Quinn do have a reputation for being a bit different though.
One further check you need to do. Some insurers use a pro-forma certificate that will have every conceivable extension / endorsement possible shown on it. These are usually numbered. Another part will then say "Operative clauses / extensions = and then a series of numbers relating to the pre-printed paragraph.
I've not seen a Quinn motor cert so not sure how they do it but might be worth a double check.0 -
I'm with Quinn and this thread prompted me to check my own certificate - which says the same thing!!! That's great to know and may come in useful one day!0
