Euro car parks - Parking fine, do you think i could get away with...

  • The other day my wife inadvertantly parked in a permit-holders only area of a free car park, controlled by Euro Car Parks. She returned to the car 5 minutes later and found a parking charge notice waiting on the front windscreen wiper.
This had been put there by Euro Car Parks staff despite the fact that her blind father was sat in the front passenger seat. No-one approached him to ask him to move the car or inform him that it shouldn't be parked there. If they had done, he could have contacted my wife immediately by phone. The notice even shows the time span of 5 minutes. My wife was in the shop next-door!
The Vultures must have been waiting to pounce!
The penalty is for £70, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.
I was going to bite the bullet and pay. However having read the above threads, I now have no intention of paying and will simply wait for a letter to come to the registered keeper (who will have no recollection of who was driving):j

Could you let me know how that turns out please Fastfoodfighter? I'm no expert but sounds like you have more of a case than me even if it does go further...

MrCristo, it's not a vase of you having a case against the scammers. The fact is that they don't have a case against YOU!

This is the most helpful thing you can read - it tells you everything you need to know.

Read it; digest it; and then tell all your friends:

There are many CCTV camaras in that car park. IF they took me to court over it I dread to think what would happen. Its ridiculous and I'm still miffed about paying...but I'm in a relationship with an extremely persistant and scary when angry woman - I think I'd have got a black eye if I didn't pay, that would have probably cost me £80 for a new pair of glasses so I think in the end I've actually saved money.... >.<

I've read the link Sarah but I'm still a little apprehensive, if they make an example of me and decide to take me to court I'd have a lot of hassle. Guess I've made the same mistake as many of the millions of people that dont visit this site. Cant be arsed to invest the time and end up losing out.

And what would the charge be?

You came here and asked for advice; you were told not to pay because the plaintiff was "having a laugh"; you paid.

I don't understand your actions any more than the next person

If you've already paid, there is no point in "appealing" to the PPC - they will just send a standard rejection letter.

You can however, issue proceedings for recovery of your money online here:

    https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco2/index.jsp

If you take a look at the forums on https://www.pepipoo.com, you will find some useful standard template letters, asking them for your money back, and telling them you will issue proceedings if they don't pay up.

The court fee will be around £30.

This was not aimed at you, it was aimed at the dummies who told him he had to pay it.
