Whilst I agree that Tesco is not a charity, I think it's a little unfair to say they are out to squeeze every penny from the customer.
£500 spent in Asda gets you £500 worth of goods and nothing else. With Tesco, you would get clubcard points worth up to £20 in deals tokens. I know Tesco also benefit through Clubcard, but at least they give something back to the customer.0 -
Yes but for the exact same £500 pounds worth of Tesco goods, you would probably only paid £480 (or less) at Asda - and had the £20 to spend wherever you wanted to....
At the end of the day it is the customer who pays for all these promotions, and the cost benefit to Tesco of knowing everybodys purchasing habits is worth probably millions.0 -
Thats the way i look at it mad maud why everyone thinks Tesco are cheap I dont think they are these day bread has gone up 7 pences in the last week you can find more bargains by shopping around. I only go to use coupons not many but if they were to stop coupons I would not go to tesco any more.0

the price of their 'value' ranges is creeping up too. 5p on something that used to cost 14p is a HUGE increase in percentage terms! And i heard on radio 4 yesterday that the big supermarkets make no or little profit on petrol in order to get customers through their doors.I don't do a 'big shop' any more, I spend less by getting things when I need them, and save the big shops for awkward times, parties, illness etc when i may do an online delivery.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Me too - this really works as I find I take advantage of new bogofs/reduced lines more and don't lug heavy stuff home either.

That's where I am now at as they wouldn't take them any more at Tesco stores nearby (except one with a limit of 5/6 max and hassle thrown in for free). I now shop hassle free at Asda's regularly. I got a kilo of cheese refunded due to penny overcharge eventually though.
I do like Asda though - even got my £2 voucher for wrong priced - cheese (yet again!!) - Time for cheese recipes perhaps?0 -

I like how tesco is littered with POS proudly displaying items that are the exact same price at ASDA, and more expensive at e.g. sainsbury.
Surely if there were any, they'd promote the items that are more expensive in ASDA0 -
Ok i better admit I work in Tesco and reading through this i feel i should say a few things ( I work on the Customer Service desk may i add) If you are overcharged in any way, shape or form be it a pricing error or double scan from the checkouts you ARE entitled to get the full refund and product free! Sometimes they will try and fob you off but just know what your entitelment is...when they know you know, they dont challenge you.
Head office will never over ride a store's decision so if the store reject say a points coupon then thats it!
May i just add the Birds Eye foods which entitle you to 150 extra points, as good as it is, my store atleast has put a restriction of 3 packets in any one transaction on and if you attempt to buy loads more a manager is called, scary huh!

According to the Tesco price check website, Asda is more expensive than Tesco on 846 items.
I think the point of the POS you saw is to inform customers that Asda are not as cheap as they claim to be. (In fact, Asda were recently told-off by the Advertising Standards Agency for claiming to officially be the cheapest UK supermarket).0 -

Ooh, a mole! I love it!
Mark, do you need any new friends?Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
A strange thing happened to me today. I picked up some weightwatchers cheese (price on the shelf was £3.48 kg, I was charged £3.79 kg). When it went through the till, it came up at £2.36. When CS scanned it to give me a refund, it scanned up at £2.20. Even CS couldn't understand why it scanned at a different price than on the till.In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.
