What is going on at Tesco ?

Just been to tesco and bought 2 packs of pre packed chicken breasts, one was £3.75 the other £3.48. The checkout girl scanned 2x£3.75 so I went to customer services. I was given the difference of 27p.I explained that I thought that Tesco poilcy was that if you were overcharged for an item you would keep it and get all the money back. Customer services said that this only applied if the shelf edge price was different to what was charged. What a load of B******s, I asked to speak to the Manager and he authorised my money back on this occassion. What is going on !!

you seem to have escaped lightly! others who have queried policy at tescos have had much worse treatment than this!

It seems that the customer services are now trained to intimidate customers into submission, lol

Hi, this happened to me before. I then complined to helpline who then contacted the store. I got a full refund - got to keep the goods. Was also given a £5 voucher and a bunch of flowers. If I was you I'd contact them, and maybe you will be as lucky.

Have a look at the thread by Igloo - when she tried to use her vouchers she was banned from the srore and "falsely imprisoned "with her two young children.

    You got off lightly!

so what was the shelf edge price? Obviously the packets were marked differently but if the shelf edge price said £3.75 then the underpriced one was to your benefit anyway. I've noticed quite a few times that the packets are actually marked lower than the shelf edge price!

Imprisoned??? For goodness sakes that's so melodramatic (and not true ) and that's just scaremongering, IMHO

If you are going to retell a story secondhand, why not tell the whole story - like the fact that the amount of vouchers being used was verging on abuse and that the person had been warned previously not to do this?
  • Redfox, the shelf edge price was £6.54 a kilo, they were different prices because they were different weights.

Yes - wannasave...if you are going to retell a story secondhand, why not tell the whole story!
Yes - I had been warned previously but because of conflicting "coupon policies" from other members of staff in the same store I emailed head office for the coupon policy. I then followed this to the letter and always went to a checkout with a checkout assistant and not the self-service ones.
After the goods are scanned, I was always up-front and told them that I had coupons ...some for things I had bought....some for things I hadnt.
I NEVER tried to mislead them in any way shape or form. All they had to do was say...I can only take a few, or one, or three...whatever. But, no, they told me what head office had said. One coupon per manufacturer for items not bought.
Then I was taken to a room with my 6yr old and 4yr old and THEN I was banned!

They will tell you their policy does not apply to staff errors - that is what they told me, when they charged me twice for one item. I had phoned in advance to explain I was going to go back to get my money back, and when I did, they tried to give me the reduced price of the duplicate item, even though I had the receipt and bar code for the product. I emailed Tesco head office to complain, and they advised me that their code applies only to shelf-edge prices, and not to cashier error. So I had to make a 40 mile round trip to get my £13 back (and they tried to fob me off with £8).

we had a similar complaint a couple of weeks ago, my husband goes to tesco everyday for various items from the hot chicken counter, last week he bought 4 sausages at 88p, when checked his receipt charged 92p each. next day he complained to cs who gave him the difference back, phoned the counter and told them that they were putting the wrong price on the items, as there tills said a different amount. we checked on the counter and they were displaying 88p, the checkout girls were typing in a code and it was coming up at 92p, in the end we wrote a letter of complaint to manager, and got £4 in vouchers and an apology. They are still priced at 88p, cs seem to think they are in charge of whole store.
    have a nice day

My opinion-I wouldn't notice if I had been overcharged by 27p, and if I did I wouldn't give it a thought, let alone complain.
