Ebay Seller Charging ridiculous P&P

Ive recently purchased an item weighing 10g for 99p on Ebay, the postage wasnt stated on the listing but when I got the invoice through the seller wants £2.50 for second class. I emailed to query this with the seller who was very rude. .. and basically said its costs her £3.49 to pack each item as she has a helper to pay... how ridiculous is that.... I bought a similar item, weighing 30g and it was 85p postage.... Im really annoyed and havent paid yet but now she has filed a dispute.... I dont want to pay this ridiculous postage amount... this seller has 8 negs already! But I have 100% feedback and know she will leave a neg for me cos she is nasty... I emailed her saying it was an offence charging extra on postage to make up for a low cost item.

Any ideas what I can do????

I thought that ebay was supposed to be cracking down on this sort of thing?

I don't think there is much you can do.Its best to find out P+P before bidding if its not on the listing.
If you don't pay you will get NPB strike and a neg for sure.
Its up to you if its worth it for £2.50

They are, sellers with low detailed seller ratings will have their listings less visible and persistent offenders will have their accounts terminated.

I don't know what the item is, but sellers often do pay people to pack, pay for packaging and traveelling to post offices. Having said that, not having postage in the listing suggests that they charge what they like depending on sale price, it is unwise to bid on such a listing without asking. By bidding you are in fact putting your trust in whatever the seller wants to charge, so they will win the dispute if you don't pay.

You need to report the seller (not in the dispute, no one reads them!) for overcharging on postage. There's a report item link at the bottom of item page.

must admit i most likely just skip listings with no P&P listed.
only if its a unique/rare item would i bother emailing

If you didn't ask how much the postage was before you bid, I don't see how you can complain

Postage costs cover all packing materials, and time take to pack and post, so £2.50 may not be that high

Like Jedster, I am getting increasingly annoyed at posters who dont ask / check or query the p&p until after purchasing the item!!!

How can you complain about it retrospectively.

How difficult can it be to ask the seller before you bid. If you dont have enought time before the end of the auction or seller doesnt respond...DONT BID!

There is little excuse for the seller being rude, but as a seller it's a bit irritating when people buy something and after completion complain about something.

I'm not sure ebay would regard £2.50 as ridiculous p&p, whatever the outcome it's certainly not an offence.

Did not think eBayer sellers could sell without delivery charges stated ?
;)!!!!!!There are More Questions Than Answers!!!!!!
:search: But I Just Don't Have Any Answers
  • I purchased a bag of glitter like I have done many times and £2.50 p&p is overcharging when another seller charged 85p... Pardon me for being to trusting and not expecting greedy ebay sellers to charge too much to cover peoples wages!!!!!!! I will be reporting this most certainly!

The seller was very rude saying the email she had to type to reply to me had cost her money.... as it had taken 14 minutes to write! She also questioned where I got my money from and other rude things! Im not interested in how much each minute means in money to her nor am I interested in how much her staff get paid. I aware 2nd class post for 10g costs 22p, and an envelope maybe 20p. So where is £2.50 from.
I can afford to pay the charges but its the principle that is really getting to me.
This board is for help and I wanted to post for advice not criticism!

you should have asked for postage costs before bidding.

2nd class is 24p for a letter (up to 5mm thick), 40p for large letter (up to 25mm thick) and 92p for a packet

the item has to be packaged which is not just the cost of an envelope, she will also possibly have to pay for labels, tape, ink and then petrol/parking/bus fare and time taken to go post office

time does cost money and if she is a business then she may well have to pay staff or her own wages to pack items and reply to emails
