No Lupie no need to get concerned as they can take a while, i've never subitted a form on-line but did you get an e-mail acknowleding your application.
A posted application can take 2-3 weeks before they write to possibly say they are contacting the G.P and you can ring them at anytime to ask how your claim is going.
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

    Hi Lupie

I don't usually advise putting a phone number on the form as they can ring at anytime and ask questions about care/mobility needs answered in claimpack.
A lot of people with mental health problems can get confused regarding what their illness prevents them from doing so your friend will have to be prepared.
Check over your claim and see what you said regarding communication as a phone call from DWP could blow this out of the water.

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say that ive applied for I.B on behalf of my friend and they called up and asked all the details.

The thing is, she asked if my friend was claiming anything and I said no but have applied for dla, she then said "oh really, its says here that she is claiming care component of dla".

That shocked me as she hadnt even received a letter saying that they have got the application.

She then asked when she had sent the application and when I said a week ago she said oh no wonder its too early yet.

Im thinking this is a good thing, am I right in thinking that?

    Happy Easter

    Can somebody please help?

My friend has just received letters of DLA and IB and both have been refused.

IB has been refused due to no NI contributions, but I thought it didnt matter since she was in full time education before she was 20, she is 23 years old at the moment.

DLA has been refused also. I dont understand. They never asked about anyone else and I just put myself in. They wrote "You are not unable or virtually unable to walk. You do not need help preparing a meal for ONE person. you are not at risk of falling.

She hardly gets out of bed without the help of her husband or me so how the hell can they write "you are not unable to walk" and her husband does all the cooking so how can they write "You do not need help preparing a meal for ONE person".

Basically everything is "YOU DO NOT NEED HELP"

Also at the same time as sending a letter saying she is not entitled to IB they also sent an IB50 form. Why have they sent that when she has been refused?

    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

If she's never paid any NI conts in her life then she would not be entitled to IB. Has her husband applied for tax credits yet as per an earlier post? You could also try and see if they were entitled to housing benefit and council tax benefit.

As for the DLA, you will need to appeal. It may be a case of that she has to see an independant doctor for assessment but I think it is worth it. I have yet to come across someone who gets DLA on a first attempt (oh apart from drug addicts of course who get it handed on a plate for thir 'disability' but that's just me having a wee rant!!!)

I also echo what everyone has said...you are clearly a good friend but I would defo get an appointment with a welfare officer at the CAB to ensure they are getting all benefits. There will be other benefits available to them for being on a low income when the baby is born.

They would have asked for hospital consultants, GP's, Social Workers etc that could have supported her application. They also now ask for medication being taken and any tests etc you have had in the previous 12 months.

Does she have a CPN? It doesnt sound like you provided enough information or evidence. Normally they would contact any consultants and GPs to confirm disabilities.

    Hiya

    What is a CPN?

They sent her a letter saying they are asking for a report from the GP. The thing is she never sees her GP only her hospital doctor so I think thats where it all went wrong.

Im thinking if she went to GP and told him everything that the hospital docs know and then ask him to write a report and then send them that, along with other notes and letters and previous medications and basically everything then she might have a chance.

    What do you think?
