Hiya
New to the site here. Just a few questions if you dont mind. My mate is thinking of applying for DLA and IB but has heard that they ask for previous bank statements, just wondering if anyone knew if this is true or not?
If they do ask for bank statements, what happens if u cannot provide them, as in hasnt got any statments coz only opened account today?
Can they find out how many accounts a person holds?
About incapacity benefit, the part where they ask for 'Tax district and tax reference number' what happens if someone doesnt have this number coz they have never worked before due to ill health from youth.
Sorry for so many questions. I hope someone can answer them for me.
Thanks in advance

Hi Lupie,
Welcome to MSE.
Both DLA and IB are non means tested, so do not require bank statements. However, IS for reason of Incapacity is means tested. Will they definitely qualify for IB under the youth provisions?
Just make a note in the 'other information' section that you do not know the tax district information. They can find it out if they need to.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Hi Back again
Just been going through other posts and been reading about the WFI concerning IB. My friend has been given the IB form for under 25s cuz she was in education the whole time and it doesnt say anywhere about WFI. Whereas i have checked the over 25s form and it says over and over about WFI.
So my question is, will she have to attend the WFI?
Let me shed some light on her. She has never claimed any benefits before. She is 23 years old and is married and currently 24 weeks pregnant. She was in education till 2 years ago when she cut it short coz of depression.
A year ago she started to get weak and found she could not do any house chores anymore coz of pain all over. She was then diagnosed with having rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia and multiple other things which i cannot remember the names of (quite complicated names).
Since she has been diagnosed, shes always in hospital one week and out the next and is on steroids and multiple number of medication.
Basically, even lying still in bed is painfull for her. Shes always talking about wanting to die and im sure has tried to off herself on a number of occasions. She says she does not want any sympathy. Her hubby works by the way, brings home £150 a week and pays bills and takes care of the house so no money left over for anything else.
I hope u can help me again dmg24 and all of u.
Thanks in advance

The WFI's are considered on all new IB/IS claims on the grounds of incapacity. However, as your friend is due to give birth in 15 weeks, her WFI will more than likely be deferred.
If she has been given a claim form for IB in Youth, to qualify she will need medical evidence for the last 28 weeks/196 days.0 -
Based on your friends illness i would certainly recommend she apply for DLA as well, only number i have is 08457123456, it costs nothing to apply(get help from CAB to fill out the book i mean form). As her husband is on such a low wage has he applied for working tax cedits, if he doesn't qualify at present he will when the baby is born so tell him to apply as soon as baba is born as they will only backdate 3 months.
Do hope everything works out well for your friends and the baby helps with the lady's mental health state.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Hiya
Thanks for your replies. The reason she hasnt applied for all this is because she doesnt want to have to go out to interviews or anything. I feel if i apply for her then shes gonna refuse to go to these places and then the trouble will begin. Is there any way she doesnt have to have or go to such places?
On a different subject, I was wondering if anyone was willing to help me as i have a problem.
I want to apply for a council house but my husband has 'no recourse to public funds'. Ive been told by CAB that I can apply only in my name and put husband down as a person living with me.
Question is, wont they ask why I put husband seperately and not as joint applicant?
Also I havent got a job at the moment so will they ask how im going to pay the rent. Hubby does have a job.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

Hi Lupie
Your friend wont have to attend an interview or alike if she just applies for DLA. You have to meet the criteria for the components which i feel she does. She could ask for an outreach worker(if possible) from CAB to visit her to help fill in the form and if a medical was required they would come out to her house. Any supporting evidence and the g.p's report is sometimes suffice.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -
Hey every1
Just to let u know that ive submitted my friends DLA claim online so now have to wait to see if they will award it. I havent sent anything with the claim though I thought if they contact the doctors they will tell them everything they need to know. Ill keep u posted on it.
Is there someone that can help me out with my problem?

You can have a tenancy in your name alone but I'm not sure if they will ask about paying the rent.
I don't know what you OH's circumstances are but you may have quite a wait for council housing - as in years. It will be less if you have children, but even then, you are looking at a long wait.
That's not much help, sorry! I'm just thinking your OH may not be in the same circumstance by the time you get a place.
Maybe you could ask the CAB for more in depth information?
Or you could just contact your local housing dept and ask them - you wouldn't need to give details just to enqiure. Actually, the CAB would probably find out for you too.0
