Hi, I have a Vodafone 541 which was used with a PAYG sim card. In Browntoa's first post, it says that Vodafone unlock their phones after the contract has ended. What is the situation please where the phone was/is payg? Is it already unlocked or do I have to go down the route of taking it to a shop/market trader to get it unlocked?

Do I need to enter the letters at the beginning or just the *, # and nos?
I have had 2 tries already using a code starting *00012* (I got from an online calculator) so only have 3 goes left!
(Will be looking at moving from Virgin now anyway ...they want to charge me £15 for the code....the phone is years old and isn't worth that much and this is just keeping it out of landfill...grrrrrr)

I have been offered an HTC Wildfire on the 3 Network as a replacement for my wifes knackered Nokia X6.

Is it possible to unlock it and use it on O2, and where would be the best place to go?

It is possible to unlock it, but you will have to contact your network provider, market stall/pro unlocker, as there are no free remote codes.

Not for free, you will have to contact your network provider, market stall/pro unlocker.
