Could have asked Orange for unlock codes at end of contract when it would be free.
After the contract ended, Orange probably want some money (£15 a phone probably for unlock code) or go down to the high street for a local shop which might do the job a little cheaper.

I was quoted £20 by Orange for unlocking.
I seem to remember a few years back there was talk of charging to unlock being bad practice and was likely to be scrapped however it has gone the other way. You used to be able to find a free unlock code and now it looks as if the network providers together with the mobile manufacturers have made it almost impossible to get it unlocked free.
  • Thanks, I never thought when I left to ask them and can't think of anywhere nearby that unlocks phones will have to ask about
  • Just bought this phone from Asda assuming it was unlocked to any network much like many of their phones...but tis not the case unfortunately. When I put my O2 sim in it says Network Lock and asks for a code....anyone know said code? Thanks.

I would like to unlock a Samsung GT-E1170 which has a Virgin PAYG simm.
I looked through the forum posts and would be grateful if you could kindly confirm that i should use the newer phones code #*7337# mentioned below. Thank you

    TEMPORARY UNLOCK:

Put a non-accepted Simcard and turn it on. Type *#9998*3323#. Press Exit. You will get a new menu. Select Malloc Fail.

Wonder if you can help me?

I won a new phone on Ebay - a Motorola V3 and according to seller it says this

Motorola V3 Razr Pink brand new in box unused and still has plastic over screen etc.

Vodafone pay as you go sim in phone not yet activated.

    Unwanted Gift

I am with Orange PAYG, is there any way I can unlock this phone so I can use it.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Kind wishes
