I have recently laid a new turf lawn and was wondering how long you should wait before feeding it?
I don't want to wait too long or do it too quickly.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

I think I would just keep it well watered for a few weeks before you put any feed on it.
Why does it need feeding if it is a new lawn?0 -
6 monthes is the normal guideline, keep well watered is best advice, leave the chemicals alone, most feeds actually say new lawns no to be done for 6 monthes.
I had a lawn laid last year, and my gardener pal said carfeull and regular cutting is better not to much off the top every week0 -
Thanks guys, will just keep up to the wateringI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I recently laid a new turf lawn too.
I put lawn feed down on the soil before I laid the turf, then feed on the turf as soon as it was laid.
I'm now feeding it once a month (as it says on the back of the box) and cutting it twice a week on a high setting.
In the first month, I feed it twice (once a fortnight) but am now doing monthly.
During the first fortnight it was down I had the sprinkler on it any day there was no rain.
I used Miracle Gro Lawn Food.
I am only using lawn feed - Alan Titchmarsh says none of the feed and weedkiller mix stuff until at least 6 months.
My lawn looks fabby! I don't think I'd leave it too long before feeding - the lawn food is helping my grass to establish itself in it's new home!
HTHIf it was easy, everyone would do it!0 -
You're usually advised not to put anything on it for at least 6 months as previously mentioned.
The reason for this is that feed, encourages leaf colour and leaf growth. You need a good root system to support the leaves.
In the first few months you want to encourage root growth before leaf growth. This is why additives are put into the soil before laying turf.
Sometimes fertilizers can burn newly laid turf and do more long term damage.
