PowerGen Freebies

The cost of Fuel is definitely going up - PowerGen (Online + Direct Debit + you get Tesco ClubCard Points) is good and they offer freebies, see below and enjoy:

Insert From Martin: You have to be with Powergen to use those vouchers, however don't see this as a reason to switch to Powergen, always read the cheapest gas and electricity article and use the techniques there to choose.

They may be online but they don't seem to have mastered the seemingly simple task of sending me an email when a new bill is ready, which is a bit of a pain.

I've been using there online billing service for the past 1 year and it works fine for me, I've always been sent a mail when a new bill is ready.

The only problem being that all bill as estimates and not actual reading, which can catch you out...

That's curious. I've had 3 bills now with no email notification on each occasion (despite me complaining to them).

In fact on 18 May 05 they sent me a response saying:

"Please accept my sincere apologies for the ongoing technical problems that are affecting our website accounts. We are aware that customers are still unable to view there bills, and are as yet not receiving the email notification to advise them that the bill is ready. Unfortunately, we still do not have a confirmed timescale as to when the website and its processes will be fully functional. We have been advised that the technicians are working hard to resolve these issues. I am sorry if you have been caused any inconvenience by these problems."

So I'd assumed that nobody was getting notification.

I've been online for about 4 months now and got an email for my last bill. Can't say I was jumping for joy though but at least I got my email

Hmmm, looks like it's just me then!

Can't say I would be jumping for joy either, but I usually run my current account fairly close to the wire and an unexpected DD (if I forget to manually check if there's a bill) could just tip it into the red - which would be really annoying.

  • No its not just you. The first that I realised we were not receiving paper bills was when powergen were increasing my DD because they had understimated our usage. (New baby in the house meant we took our eyes of the ball for a while!!).
And we have definetly not received any email notification that a new bill was ready. The most annoying thing is that I do not recall opting out of receiving paper bills. British Gas give you the option.

I have had no end of problems with Powergen. They have sent me bills 6 weeks apart and then nothing for 6 months, didn't inform me that I needed to up my DD, in the end I had to contact them and offer to pay more as I was getting in arrears, all my bills are estimated although my meters have been read and just this morning I received notification that their prices are going up. I will be using my vouchers, paying off my arrears and switching provider as soon as I am clear.
  • I have not had any problem with them sending me e mails the only problem is trying to read them the print is all over the place, I had to phone the call centre (in India) lady said I was nearly £200 in credit thought great I'll have some back she sent £100 back in to my account only to find out with the next bill I now owed them £100. Grrrr
  • Hi

We're currently with Powergen, but must get round to checking if switching is better for us.

Could i claim the free lightbulbs, and then if switching is better, switch to some other provider? Or is there some sort of clause that locks you in ith Powergen for 12 months or so?

    Thanks
