Thanks OP, I dont drink enough water.
  • I found that the amount of water you drink is unique to each person - and you should base it on your own needs, and yourself. Everyone is a different shape and size, so a person who is 5ft tall is not going to need as much as someone who is 6ft tall. it's all relative - you then add into that their einvironment, how active they are, what they are eating. Drinking too much can be bad for you too!

Just for the record, the recommendation about how much water you should drink came from research done in the 1940's. However, what it actually concluded was that, "An ordinary standard for diverse persons is 1 millilitre for each calorie of food. Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods."

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water#For_drinking.

A whole industry would appear to have been created on conveniently ignoring that second sentence.

Nevertheless, I appreciate the spirit in which the OP posted this thread and have clicked their "Thanks" button accordingly.

Whilst this could be handy, I find the best way is just have a glass of water on my desk at work. I find I sip from it fairly naturally, even though I don't feel parched.

Like others have already written, it seems to be best to drink a little water often rather than wait for your body to tell you that you are thirsty.

Nobody will need to be told how much water to drink each day. When you are thirsty, drink. If you are not thirsty, don't drink.

I need to be told !!
It's easy to sit at a computer all day and forget about drinking.
Not enough water can cause all sorts of problems - dehydration, constipation (as your body takes water from your colon when dehydrated), lethargy, tiredness etc.

As someone else said when you are thirsty it's too late.
lol i actualy drink on average 4-5 litres a day.

    That's really good.
I think I'd be on the loo all day though ;)

Thanks SunPrincess - I am always grateful that people take the time and trouble to post their fiinds on here. If some people don't find your post useful to them, then they should just move on to something that they do find useful and not waste their time by criticising it and possibly putting other people off of posting their things.

Personally, I think it can be very helpful to some people and it was very kind of you to post it.

    So, Thank You :)
  • Having to get up from a computer in order to have a drink is a good discipline. We frequently spend far too long seated in one position. Keeping liquids away from keyboards is a good idea too.
