We can't get more than 1meg broadband so is it worth paying Tiscali package?

do you have any technical ability? There is a way of altering the speed on your line to get more synch speed. Basically there is a tool called the DMT tool available from here: hxxp://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/DMTv7.htm
This allows you to reduce the SNR margin on your phone line which restricts the speed you connect at. This noise margin allows the router to talk to the DSLAM at the exchange and if the margin is high it is easy for the router to "hear" the exchabge talking to it. As the SNR reduces it does become harder for it to hear so there is more chance of the router dropping out.
Now, the secret is to reduce as much as possible without it dropping out.Find out what you router is and download the appropriate DMT tool. This will talk to the exchange and alter your SNR by using the slide tool located on the right hand side of the tool. Depending on the router you can get the SNR down to about 6 or even slightly lower with no discernable loss of service. Be aware this is a process of trial and elimination!
This will probably only work if you are on the Max product but still try, its free and you have nothing to lose :rotfl::T0 -
Where we live we only get 1 meg broadband due to old exchange. Very rural area.
We pay Tiscali £19.99 for BB and anytime phone calls. We then also pay BT for line rental. Is this competitive or should we move. Would love faster BB but we can't have that.
You would certainly save money with Tiscali if you upgraded to the max including line rental. Yes, their customer services are cr*p but once it's all working, I think Tiscali is fine.
A while ago I was on the "up to 8Meg" and my connection icon showed 2.2Mbps so I changed to the cheaper 2Meg. I recently upgraded to the package including line rental and when my line was switched to Tiscali it now shows 6.6Mbps.
I know that's hardly a scientific study but I'm happy with the upgrade."Beer. Now there's a temporary solution." Homer (Simpson)0 -

Isn't that only if they have their equipment in the exchange, which going by what is posted in that exchange no one else other than BT have equipment in it.
So you have to have a BT Wholesale product and not an LLU product, that is whoever you pay your broadband fees to are using the BT wholesale product and that would cost them more than having their own equipment in the exchange. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
