We can't get more than 1meg broadband so is it worth paying Tiscali package?

Where we live we only get 1 meg broadband due to old exchange. Very rural area.

We pay Tiscali £19.99 for BB and anytime phone calls. We then also pay BT for line rental. Is this competitive or should we move. Would love faster BB but we can't have that.

What does this website tell you is available to you on your exchange?

Thanks but think this just tells we what I already know doesn't it? i.e - the best speed I can get is 1mg BB.

I was wondering if as I can't actually get anything faster am I paying over the odds? Should I switch to a different provider/package?

Does it? Does it tell you that you can get 1MB on ADSL or on ADSL Max? It is basically the distance from your exchange that matters and the quality of the line.

Yes Tiscali is probably the worst!

There's a bit more to it than that. That site is the best way to find out about all the services you can get on your line:

along with the info you already found:

The sort of info above would help us with making recommendations. :)

ok, sorry if I was confused. I have pasted below what the website gave me....

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

The following services are available in your location:

    lg_green.gifBT Wholesale ADSL
    lg_green.gifBT Wholesale ADSL Max
Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location.

You are approximately 5.12km from the exchange (straight line distance).

I am none the wiser so your help would be appreciated. I dont know what wholesale asdl means! Thanks in advance. Let me know if I can provide other info of use.

You still need to expand the information given on the website! What happens if you click on the BT ADSL box? Is the speed that you have previously quoted for ADSL or ADSL max.

clicking on that box gives the info below (all other boxes say not available)

lg_green.gifADSL is available in your area
lg_green.gifYour exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 1Mbps or greater ADSL connection.

    Standard ADSL RAG results:
lg_red.gif You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
lg_orange.gifYou may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
    lg_green.gifYou can receive 512Kbps ADSL
    lg_green.gifYou can receive 256Kbps ADSL
You are approximately 5.12km from the exchange (straight line distance).

However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

I get Tiscali 1MB unlimited for £9.99. If your contract is finished, why not ask them to put you down for that + anytime talk package for £7.99? It's not much but it's slightly cheaper?
