Thames Water have just informed me that yes, I can claim a rebate, but only if they check and find someone else in my area has already claimed - (how does that work the first time??)

Apparently, having asked for it, I can now have it (based on the above) or they will send me a form to take it further in the next 10 working days...

I also asked if I can claim this retrospectively - they didn't know but apparently, I can ask on the form....

Will let you know what transpires.

10 Mar, recieved confirmation of entitlement today from Thames. Have written to ask if I can claim retrospectivly on previous years. Awaiting revised bill
Thanks for this! Can you please provide the name of the form required, and for how many years you were able to claim?

Honey this is from 2008 so I doubt you will get a reply but even if you do it is about Surface water drainage and not water bills. That is something different all together.
I have replied to your thread so that might help explain

Hi, I have read the articles on reclaiming water rates, which appear to be a flat no. However, how do you stand if you have paid your water rates through a local authority and have never actually received a water bill? I have been living in local authority housing for 7 years and have paid the council who have then paid the water company. Throughout this time I have never recieved any breakdown of charges or been offered a water meter. Is there any redress in these circumstances? Thanks.

Do you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland?
  • I went onto a water meter living in the SW. I had a bath every morning and cut my bills massively. I went down to paying £12-£15 a month instead of over £40. I used the bath water throughout the day to flush the loo, use in the garden or on the car. Having a water meter is great. Really makes you think about what you use/waste.
  • You can ask the local water company if you can have a meter if the council allow you to do this. You won't get any money back but should be able to reduce your bills in future.

    Welcome to the forum.

I assume you are both not on meters?

Firstly check their Rateable Value(RV) and your own RV - you can find it on your bill.

If you post those RVs on this thread we can go through a number of reasons why you are paying more.
