Hello,
hoping someone can offer advice before I lose my rag completely with A&L.
It's a bit long-winded so bear with me.
In March 2007 I applied to A&L to open a Premier Direct Account. This was refused.
In Nov 2008 I successfully opened a Premier Account with A&L.
In Jan this year I wrote a cheque to a company for £75.
I noticed this cheque hadn't been presented to my Premier Account and was surprised when the company contacted me to say the cheque had bounced.
I visited my branch and paid in £100 cash using the same cheque/deposit book to ensure sufficient cash was in my Premier account.
A couple of days later I noticed this cash hadn't credited and went back to the branch.
Staff discovered I also have a basic A&L current account at a previous address, and it was from this account that the cheque had bounced and the £100 cash had then been paid into.
I believe this account may have been set up when I was turned down for a Premier Account.
Somewhere along the line the cheque books have obvs got mixed up.
£50 in charges have been applied to this basic account.
These are being refunded but have taken me over my OD limit apparently.
So another charge has been applied.
And another.
I can't close the acc apparently as it is in dispute.
But I can continue to go round in this circle of being charged for being OD, refunded then charged again because the charges have taken me over my OD limit.
HELP!

Hi, I have just opened a current account with A&L and so far find them ok, they are the only bank that would give me a proper current account and not one of those kiddies electron things, anyway I think it would be fair to say that A&L have made an error, gather as much factual data as possible and then go into a branch and demand to speak to a senior meber of staff in order to get this sorted.
Good luck, post back and let me know the outcome please.
Regards
RobSince when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

Well the £50 charges were refunded but the same day they took back £25 as their charges had taken me over my OD limit.
For four days in a row now I have rang and asked to speak to someone about closing the account down and sorting out the charges.
Callbacks promised but not received.
Spent an hour in the branch today with a lady who SWORE someone would call me back today.
Nothing.
Have put together a long letter detailing my complaint and what I want done, gonna post it, give seven working days then look into a FOS complaint.
The last callhandler I spoke to was appalling, quote: "What do you want me to do about? There isn't anyone you can speak to. I can't just make someone appear."

It was.
I have asked for a copy of the phonecall under the Data Protection Act.
Prior to my current job I worked in various callcentres for five years and a callhandler and team leader.
If I caught one of my team speaking to a customer like that I would have them off the lines in seconds.
I always try not to lose my rag when I speak to callcentres as I know what it can be like to have crap dished out to you, but at the same time there are ways and means of dealing with annoyed customers, and getting your lip on isn't one of them.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -

Just leave A&L
I've only been with them for about six months.
I switched over from HSBC for the interest free O/D, thought it would give me a year to get my OD down from £500 to £0 if poss.
Wish I'd stuck with HSBC.
interest charges of £12-ish a month almost seem pref to endless stress; letters, phonecalls.DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
