    Hi,

if you are going to buy from Apple, then there are 2 levels of discounts. The first is the Apple Store for Education. This gives a basic discount on all of the kit. However, if you are at a Uni, go to the Apple Store for Higher Eduction as this gives a bigger discount on the kit. To get into the Higher Education store, you need to access it from the Uni network.

Don't know about PC World but there are substantial discounts on some Microsoft packages for students - of any age so can be used for home if there are school age children in the house.

Mind you for a lot of home use OpenOffice would do the job just as well for free!

or you could get it from

the ultimatesteal which microsoft runs every year after the start of uni to around end of feb and get MS office for £38 :P

    The apple discount is 6%

my mate told me the other day i'll find out the link for you.

there is a different discount rate for Higher Education and Further Education...8% for one and 15% for the other!

I got someone to log in from their university server and got the prices - I'm not a student yet (well, Open Uni student until Sept then full time! ) so I could only enter the site via the apple site - entered my uni name and got the lower percentage discount for students.

apparently there is a rumour that the student offer will be a apple touch when you buy a mac - I'm just hoping this will happen before Oct as I want one now!!! :p
Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later date :o:D
now at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!

It discount depends on whether your in Primary, Secondary or Further education - you get different amounts.
&&&, on top of that, the % changes every so often.
