There are balls and there are balls
eco balls with beads in them. I have them but they`re not brilliant
I'll second that. The wash balls from lakeland do work and like morganlefay says, they pummel the washing so the detergent that you do use is more effective.
There are NONE on ebay
Sorry, it wasn't Ebay that was mentioned, it was something called Fleabay - which I've never heard of before.0 -
Squeaky, I don't think the things that Kittie is talking about are the same as the washing powder substitutes mentioned in the rest of the thread.
The dolly balls mentioned by Kittie are used in addition to washing powder not instead.
Would it be possible to separate her post out again, at least for a day or two? Reason for asking is that, speaking for myself, I wouldn't have visited this general post so would not have picked up Kitties post. There may be others like me?0 -
I invested in some dolly washer balls as I was browsing around Lakeland the other week. ( A dangerous occupation for me, I always spend money in there as I love their products). Anyway I bought these:

They claim to reduce the washing powder you need significantly. I was a little doubtful but I thought I would give it a go. To my amazement they actually work and I am saving a fortune in washing powder. I know eco balls are in theory the way to go, but I am just a little afraid to give up the old powder completely. However I reckon I will recoup the cost in about saved washing powder after I have bought 4 large boxes. After that I will be quids in. Trouble is now, its taking me ages to get through a box of powder! Well worth the effort though. And they should last for a very long time.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking. Hi Dee,
We have a long thread on washballs so I've added your thread to it to keep all the replies together.

I have been using Eco Wash Balls since July. These are the white plastic balls with the blue rubber round the centre. I will be honest and say that they worked well on the colours. When I did a white load I would add some washing soda in the drum in order to keep the whites white (this was also recommended). I tend to use the three balls as I have a 5kg washing machine but if I am doing a single load I use one ball.
I managed to get 127 washes on the first set of balls, then I put the refills in. I have since done a further 50 washes. They say the balls are good for up to 150 washes each, but I managed 127 with all three balls. However one of the balls broke and I got a replacment and today another one broke so I am down to two balls. I am working into my 6th month of using them. The blue rubber tends to come off but can be put back on.
I will definitely use the balls again. I will probably try the green balls next time round to see if there is any difference. I no longer use fabric softener and miss out the rinsing as the clothes don't need it. If there are any stubborn stains I use the stain stick or Vanish spray.
There is definitely a saving to be made both in electric, powder and fabric conditioner.
A big THANK YOU to Martin for all his money saving advice. I am taking it all in and passing my MONEY SAVING TIPS to everyone I know.:j

Hiya
I've added your query onto an earlier thread. Hopefully it should give you some idea.

They do work but the best ones are from lakeland and cost about £9. No use if you have really dirty clothes.0

Hello moomi
This subject has been discussed in the 'Old Style' board, in threads like this one:
Wash balls - Laundry balls - Ecoballs
So I'll move your thread across.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
