My boy was telling us allabout Earth Hour on Friday and we decided to take part by switching all lights off. So we all sat in the living room for an hour on Saturday night, just candles..................
wondered why no neighbours were taking part.
Discovered it's THIS Saturday coming:rolleyes:
still i suppose we saved an hours worth of energy lol:D

There's already a thread running on the Green and Ethical Board on this
As it's a better fit there than on Old Style, I'll move this and merge it.

Well - I was all gung-ho to do it - then went further onto that website and saw that Richard Branson was there advocating it - at which point I turned a bit sceptical (as in Richard Branson - errr....of the Virgin Airlines....) ...
Ceridwen, if we waited for Richard Branson to save the planet we'd be in deep trouble....... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Is the really a good idea? To me, the idea of trying to get the entire population to simultainously switch off their electrical appliances / lights etc and then switch them back on again sounds very irresponsible.
I can imagine that if a significant proportion of the population actually did this it could cause the power companies problems. Dont forget that if this action causes part of the grid to trip (even locally) it could cause someone to have an accident that could be serious.
Its a good job most people will be sensible enough to not get involved with this stunt.0 -
My 7yo is (at the moment) very anti-pollutants and gets upset about the Polar Bears dying.
Anyway, 8pm is past her bedtime, so I have suggested that we have another Earth Hour for her so she can join in - just so she feels as if she is doing something. She was happy with that idea!0
