From the website http://www.earthhour.org/
"Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
This simple act has captured the hearts and minds of people all over the world. As a result, at 8pm March 29, 2008 millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane and Tel Aviv will unite and switch off for Earth Hour."

Ah yes, I heard of this and I will be taking part. I will be turning EVERY light on in the house for an hour to protest at how the global warming brigade are potentially causing serious problems because of all the climate change hysteria.
For example, if we are all forced down the route of using bio-fuels this will cause the price of food to skyrocket causing many thousands to starve.
There are too many green initiatives that have not been thought through and will actually make things worse. The hysteria has to stop and people need to start thinking.
How many things are going to happen because of this Earth Hour? I bet there will be a few accidents with people walking round their house in darkness. Also I bet there will be a few house fires because of people using candles and setting fire to something - if I was in the fire brigade I would be worried.0 -
Hiya Sandieb,
we already have a thread about earth hour, so I'll merge the two to keep all the replies together.
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post has been moved to another thread, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Heehee, turning the lights off will do nothing. Turning them all on again at 9.00pm may cause some problems.
We all know about the problems caused when a good film finishes, or a football match and everyone rushes of to put the kettle on or go to the loo. What will happen if millions of people suddenly turn their lights on at 9.00pm?0 -
Just a reminder, this is tonight... hope lots of people will join in! It's already happened in Australia...0

My first impressions are that it's a pretty rubbish idea (sorry). We need to gradually make a change to everything we do, not turn off some lights for an hour. How about only having one light on in your house every dark night? Make a difference 365 days a year.Happy chappy0

im all prepared for this. have the lounge all ready which is where we will spend the evening.
candles and matches are read so i will begin when it gets dark not necessarily at 8pm. and i wont be putting the light on at 9pm either.
once the candles are on they are on so to speak.
if candles were cheaper id do it all the time.0 -
Well, cant sign up as I cant get onto the website, but will join in anyway!0

We are taking part in our house to make a point that everyones 'little bit' can make a difference when we join together...and I know its hardly going to change the world but every little helps and I'd rather do that than nothing. Although I do tend to switch things off when they are not needed.
