At this point i'm in a rush to get home from work, but will post back later...

My GF and I purchased a similar priced house to the OP's 2 years ago, but we are both on double what the OP and partner are on wage wise...

I will post our SOA later for you to compare to yours OP.

    M

    EDIT:

Whoops, didn't realise this stretched to 5 pages so I guess everything has been said. In that case i'll save myself the effort of posting if its not needed!

Feel free MORPH3US =) The more help the more I learn.

I've spent this afternoon (apart from slacking off from doing any actual work >_>) drawing up a plan for saving money. Even at our poor wages that we're on now, we could have quite a bit saved up in a year's time to add to what I've already got.

...and hey all you other guys, no bickering in my thread =P

?? i don't understand how does this relate to what i said ??
please could you tell the op the price you paid for your first property that you bought when you were on the same wage that they are now. thank you.

The whole thing relates to what you said!!!:rotfl:

The OP doesn't want to know what I bought the house for. Thank you. Some of my family don't know either so I'm not putting it on a forum! But like I said in post 58 I still stand by it.....why is this turning into a slagging match...????

I know I never spend 140K back then on my house, I never once said that, I mentioned the morgage because I thought it was a positive thing to do..after all I haven't got the best job in the world, I was trying to be nice!...but some people come on here and haven't got anything better than to nit pick...

I KNOW I'VE BEEN LUCKY! I'VE NEVER SAID THERE'S ANYTHING WEIRD WITH RENTING ITS JUST NOT FOR ME. WHERE I LIVE THE RENT IS PAYING FOR THE MORTGAGE AND SOMETIMES A WEE BIT MORE.

OP you have your head screwed on and I wish you all the best. You sound like your more postive and less railroaded now. Good Luck

I was arguing with poppyseed head as she can't justify herself, but i'm off home now and no matter what she posts I promise not to post back.

gah! I'm not trying to nit pick but if you are going to advise someone to spend £100k+ on something you better have jolly good reasons for doing so.

Your whole argument for the OP to go ahead has been that you bought a house at his age on the same wages so "if you can do it they can"
but it is patently obvious that you paid much much less than the OP is considering spending. As the question the OP is asking is can they afford it then your advice is completely misplaced.

Added to this the fact you keep littering this thread with tales of your lowly 4 bed 2bath house along with your constant belittling of anybody who rents - despite what you say in your last post - and you are not coming across very well. I'm sure you are a lovely person in real life and good luck to you but marching into a thread full of worried first time buyers announcing it's easy to buy a 4 bed house and that you can't understand why we don't all do it is not endearing you to anybody and shows you have little insight into the current housing market and the plight of young people today.

See you are reading between the lines AGAIN! I have never belittled anyone on here that rents. If renting suits you thats cool who am I to say not too, for me its a no go because of where I live....do we agree???

My house is needing alot of work (mostly cosmetic) thats why (and market prices at the time) I got a good price but not once have I said to anyone to go out and buy a 4 bed house and its easy..its all through this thread that I got a damn good deal......I'd see your point if I came on here saying 'oh I paid my mortgage off and it was 200K, go for it its easy' but not once have I made myself sound as if I'm above anyone.

And I hope THIS part doesn't cause an arguement but i found out at 2.30 today my house is worth more than I thought so maybe I'm not with it on the prices but it looks like this area is going a bit crazy with the prices too NOW.

So apologies if I offended you but it wasn't meant to come across that way.

sorry OP. Just a pet hate of mine people who bought property long ago preaching to those starting out to mortgage themselves up to the eyeballs! I will call a truce with poppyolivia now though as I feel I have made my point.

I hope MORPH3US does post back as they sound well placed to give you an idea of the costs you are looking at.

You can not afford this house.

Having £100 left each month, does not mean you can afford it. What it means is you'll be treading water........but the water will be up to your bottom lip.

Rent, the way things are likely to mimick the United States in the next 12-18 months, you'll be able to choose from many other houses at far more reasonable rates. Assuming you have a job of course at that point.

Sorry for the downbeat tone, but I can not believe anyone on this thread could advocate this person buying a house of that costing on such low low wages.

They'll be doomed from the second they walk through the front door.
