Carpeting question

Pink.

I want to replace the carpet in a few rooms. Oh works for a carpet manufacturing firm, so sourcing reasonably priced carpet is not a problem.

What I want to know is:

a) Do I need to replace the old underlay as well as the carpet?

b) Does anyone know the best way to go about finding a local carpet fitter?

Everytime!!! You cannot beat the luxurious feeling of a carpet with new underlay, especially if your old stuff has been down a while. I don't know your circumstances, but we always go for a "quality" underlay as well.

Recommendation is always the best way, but we dropped on really well when we moved house 11 years ago. We got a guy roll up in a scruffy old van, unshaven, mucky old trainers on etc and I thought "Oh no"! He turned out to be the consumate professional, even putting his slippers on before he came into the house and asking if he could wash his hands before he started. The quality of his work was superb - and we've used him several times since. He now fits carpets for all the family and most of my friends.

Oh, Please, Please, Please.

And now I've been and pressed the wrong button. Must be the state you've got me into.

Tell you what I do know is if you have that expensive underlay (like canvas with foam rubber wrinkles) called duralay I think, then it was guaranteed for something like 20yrs. That shouldn't need replacing unless of course it's been down for that long.

Enough penance or do I have to do more?
