The Gordon Brown 20% Tax Con.

Well, they have to rob somebody to pay for their perks, and they're not going to target the rich - who else will give them a nice little earner when they leave office..?
Anyway, one of the first things they did was to rob future pensioners - wasn't much of backlash on that one was there? Maybe it's just that more people are now seeing how they've trashed the economy...
My view is that it's more a case of Brown's chickens coming home to roost.
Best chancellor we've ever had ? As Jim Royle would say "My bum"......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I just calculated that I lose £12 (appx.) per month compared to last financial year. For me personally this is not a dramatic loss, although really annoying, as my husband is the main breadwinner, but for lots of people on a low income this is surely a very serious loss!
This government is a disgrace! I am sorry I did not see the petition before, I would have certainly signed it.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
If I had a choice now I would vote for the British National Party, not that I am racist in any way but who else looks like a party for the common man?
I think a lot of people will either be staying at home on 1st May OR voting for any other party that happens to be putting up a candidate in their area. So many people are totally p*ssed off with the present incumbents and the other 'main parties' have not grabbed their attention either.
It was McBrown himself who introduced the 10% band a few years ago now, 7 or 8 years? He introduced it to 'help the lower-paid and those on fixed incomes' IIRC. He now thinks that the increase in child benefit and winter fuel allowance will offset the increase, not considering that there are an awful lotta people out there who don't qualify for either.
BTW if you look on the EngDem website, scroll down the page and you'll see where it says 'English Democrats come from all parts of England' and I'm there in the middle of that picture in the white cardigan, DH is taking pictures on my right hand side, think it was Matt O'Connor we were listening to and DH can't resist using his new camera.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I still fume with anger every time the left-leaning BBC talks about the "abolition of the 10% rate" - this wonderful Government didn't abolish it, they doubled it to 20% :mad:0

New Labour increase the divide between the rich and the poor.
The removal of the 10% tax band has effectively reduced the gross pay of the lowest paid in this country ,including pensioners, tell the government what you feel about that in the local elections in May.To be happy you need to make someone happy.0 -
I'm due to retire at 60 later this month and will do it with no regrets. I had a holiday and Saturday job from the age of 14 and started work full time when I was 15 years old. Apart from a few years off to raise my family, I've always worked and paid the higher NI contributions. My income is and will be well below the £18500 band. I'm not complaining about that but it's a disgrace that this Government sees fit to penalise the poorer people in society. There's a lot of voters who'll never vote for them again. My problem is I don't know which party to give my vote to now. Have any of the other parties said that they'll reinstate the 10% tax band?" The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

I don't think any political party, whether the 'main ones' or the smaller ones like the EDP, could make any such commitment. It would all depend on 'looking at the books' after a successful election.
It must be remembered that a 10% tax band never existed previously (AFAIK). It was introduced by the then Chancellor, G Brown, as a 'vote-catcher', supposedly to help the lower-paid and people on fixed taxable incomes like retired people with a small works pension. Having tinkered with the whole system, introducing other measures like WTC, CTC, pension credit, winter fuel payment, free bus travel and all the rest, increasing personal allowances for 65+ and increasing child benefit, he probably now feels safe enough to withdraw the concession that he himself invented. As it was 'his baby' I would doubt that any future politician would commit to restoring it, certainly without a future Chancellor looking at the 'books', as I said earlier.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Labour will find it very hard to get back in again once they lose.
They have forgotten who they were suppose to be representing and the grass routes will not be there next time to prop them up to make a come back.
The only problem is, who do we vote for that's different?0 -
Hey Margaret! Spotted you in the picture!
Isn't your OH handsome????????!!!
Going to read the rest of the website now.
But must just say, as a lifelong Labour voter with only a few wavers, and one of the people who shed tears of joy when Tony Blair came to power,:o believing in New Labour, this government under Brown is one of the worst I can remember. At least Blair had leadership skills. Flash Gordon has nothing as far as I can see.
I still have a vote in UK Parliamentary Elections although I live in Spain (our son acts as proxy), and I certainly will not be voting for Brown's governmemt.
But I couldn't possibly vote for Dave either, and can't even remember the name of the LibDem one. Don't want to vote for either UKIP or the fascists....so Margaret, I think it will have to be your English Democrats.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Self-satisfied, gift of the gab, fantasist comes more readily to my mind.0
