Hiya, hope you had a good birthday and good night out Polly. If you're like me when you come back from being out, you can't wait to come back on this thread and find out what's been added! :D It's a bit addictive isn't it? :D Or maybe its just me?:o ....

I still haven't done my card yet :naughty: and I've got a hectic weekend coming up - hopefully will get it done but I may have to do a late entry, like others here have done in the past...

In answer to the question about cutting lines straight I use a paper cutter or guillotine - they are worth getting and not that expensive. They usually have good ruler markings on 'em for perfect squares and lines.

Anybody that hasn't got tissue paper, its very cheap to buy - I got some lovely flower patterned tissue paper from Woolworths today for 99p for 4 sheets but I've also seen it in the Works, amongst other places...

    Have a good weekend All...:D

    Hi
I have been reading this thread since it started and find it really interesting - you have all made some wonderful cards. I would like to make my own cards but don't know where to start. I don't feel I am arty enough to make a complicated card and think if I make a simple one it will look boring:rotfl: the other thing is I don't know what sort of things to look for so was wondering if this mag would be useful for a complete beginner and novice:D

Simple cards don't have to be boring - honestly! I used to make loads of cards and sell some too, now I just make for me to send as I don't have time to do any more. You don't have to be arty. I was always terrible at art/design at school and had no interest in it either but love making cards and parts of presents to give to others now. The most important thing I think is to look at what goes with what - colours and tones, textures etc. I think the magazine sounds fab but very £££ but as it contains lots of 'kit' it may be a good place to start as you should be able to get going making cards just with the contents of the mag (and some glue!). Also you may find www.docrafts.co.uk useful, lots of their card ideas are easy and quite simple but effective. Good luck, but let me warn you, card making is a very addictive hobby!!! :D

  • I haven't opened the free gifts in the Lets Make Cards Mag.........It's too pretty!!! I loved some of the ideas in the magazine, i am going to try some of them out. I have finally been able to show you all some pictures of my cards! Here's my entry for this weeks freestyle card challenge. Hope you like it :)
    card2.jpg

    Here's how i made it:
    1. I printed everything from the computer except the 3 embelishments.
    2. Put the paper so it is slanting at an angle, then cut to size, making sure the top of the paper is flat, not pointed.
    2. Then, i decoupaged the topper and, using foam pads, i affixed a sequin and a gem to the image.
    3. I cut out a 'Make A Wish' (printed from the computer) and mounted it onto some patterned printed paper (from the computer), using glue.
    4. I then put a green allocant sticker on the top right-hand corner for detail.

Hope you all like it xxx

  • Hi

I download my sentiments and papers from cardmakingandpapercraft.com

I too think it is expensive buying embelishments. I also print off decoupage sheets. Oh, and Shaz, which flower paper do you mean? Both papers aren't 3D, they are just flat, applied with glue on to the card. I will strive to put more of my cards on!!! Lol Keep it up guys!

POLLY, you have the say birthday as MSE Martin~!
Oh and by the way-the decoupage sheets have been removed from the site to make more space for new ones.

Hello everyone, I'm a bit delayed with this week's challenge card as Ihave been on a course this week and when i got home I have been exhausted. Anyway, here is this week's card. It is made by tea-bag folding, a bit like origami. I saw it being demonstrated at the craft exhibition in Aintree a couple of weeks ago, and like a sheep I bought exactly the same card and paper. I really enjoyed making it though, it is very theraputic folding the little squares into the right shape. I hope you like it. The paper is from the "sei" range and is a double-sided shimmer paper with a pearlescent finish. One side has the darker background and tiny dots, the other has a lighter background and bigger dots.

I need to get moving now, it is my mum's birthday today, and guess what? I haven't got a card for her. I'll see what I can rustle up before I head round there.

PS. I love seeing everyone's cards, they are all so different. I think shaz's black and white one is very striking, although it looks quite simple to make, apart from the squares! PAP's purrfect card is very bright and colourful and ilc's singing in the rain is lovely too.

    Bye!
