Connecting Broadband to PC Upstairs Without a Phone Point

Are you sure that you do not have an ADSL filter somewhere in-line between the master socket and the modem upstairs, apart from the one that the modem plugs into? If you have, you are simply preventing the ADSL getting to the modem, because that's what they do - filter. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I think you could be right as I even attempted to plug the modem straight into the phone point upstairs but couldn't get the 'i' light to turn green.0 -
I expect to be in a similar situation to this soon -
ie moving from Orange/BT Anytime to talktalk Broadband and having the PC connection in a room which has a diy phone extension.
Having read the TT blurp (I've not signed up yet so I don't have the gear) I think that I understand the hardware connection process.
At the moment the main (ie original) phone point isn't used and the phone/pc are used from the diy extension.
Simple questions -
(1) can microfilter be used with a diy extension. Does anything have to be fitted to main extension or is it just left as an unused socket?
(2) if a phone eventually needs to be used on main extension can it be done merely be adding another microfilter on that extention?

To be honest even if you do get your broadband to work via an extension it won't be anywhere near as fast/reliable as when you use the main(master) socket.
If you encounter problems with telephony or adsl then you will find that support will insist that you connect to the master (or test socket behind the master faceplate - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/troubleshooting.htm) to eliminate your internal wiring as the cause.
In my case our wiring is reasonably new, <10 years, only one extension but broadband doesn't work at all when router connected there. It did work when we were on a fixed 1 meg product but adsl max is not so forgiving.
Solution is connect to master and go wireless or networking over the mains to get the best out of your connection.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
espresso,
Latest update is that my Dad got so fed up with trying to get wireless to work he gave the desktop PC away and has bought a new laptop.
Would you mind having a look at my latest problem please?
