Hi, I'm still not sure why you want a credit card if you're unemployed. Is it something to do with ebay?

I've been suspended from ebay and I need to get it reinstated by supplying the right documents which I thought I already have. But ebay say its not adequate.

one of the proof they are asking for is a governement issued id. Is that a national insurance number?

I don't think you will find anyone that will give you credit or a credit card when you have no income.. what would be the point?! You have no current means to repay it..

This isn't a go at OP, but the numpty that said you can get a card..

Even by the slim chance that some low life cowboy of a company would give you one, I don't expect their interest rates or terms would be acceptable.

    Listen to shelf stacker..

I have no job & was given a Capital one Credit Card & Barclaycard despite being unemployed & it wasn't that difficult - i wouldn't call Barclaycard a lowlife cowboy personally.. You can get credit cards without a job & benefits DO count.

Don't get me wrong G-G, i can see the logic but the reality is it's not at all difficult to get a Credit Card on benefits, in fact it's surprisingly easy. Obviously people on benefits may be deemed a greater risk & that's understandable but my credit score is excellent and i make sure i don't take on debts i can't afford to pay back. Having said that i do understand not everyone can or will be able to manage credit & should think very carefully before applying if they have no job.

Interestingly Capital One gave me more credit than some people i know who do have a job but have a poor credit rating.

For some reason I didn't realise you could get one without a job, always working with mortgages so I presumed them to be the same.

I have appologised to Yorkshire Boy for calling him a numpty.. I had a drink last night and i'm not a drinker, so I think it went to my head.. *hides in shame*

Back to the post though, I am suprised that you can get a card, shocked in fact.

There is one card (i think it's Aqua) that is specially marketed for people with poor credit or low income, it has an extortionate APR% but it gets people who wouldn't normally be able to get credit on the bottom rung of the ladder.

To be honest i did not expect to be accepted but Barclaycard accepted me just based on the initial phone call i made to apply on the phone & they gave me £1450,00.

It is shocking when you consider the situation some unemployed people could have got in with that amount of credit & i don't know if the 'Credit Crunch' has had any impact on it but when i applied it couldn't have been easier.

As i said i can see exactly why people without a job would be deemed a greater credit risk & i make sure i don't spend money i can't pay back every month, but not everyone would manage credit responsibly i guess.

Completely off topic but did you ever hear about the job your applied for and had great hopes of getting. Sorry cannot find thread.
  • I am a full time carer and on benefits because I am classed as unemployed. I have a credit card because it is cheaper to buy books on the net than it is in a charity shop. I put the money I would have spent on buying the books in the shops aside and use it for paying off the card on time. As long as you are sensible it is not a problem. the problem comes when you are not sensible.
