EDF tariffs - online V5
Options
I can't find this tariff anywhere on their website.
I just used Energyhelpline to switch to EDF. It offered me "EdF Energy - Online 5".
I was in a hurry (about to go to football - we won 4-1!) and as I knew I could cancel I didn't triple check the supposed saving against my own calculations and went ahead with signing up.
I have since been able to do a comparison and am now confused. The only tariffs I can find are here:
http://www.edfenergy.com/edf-energy/showPage.do?name=homeenergy.switchBrand.prices.til
And the gas and lecky prices from that page work out more expensive than my current e.on prices.
However, after searching this forum, and particularly after skim-reading this thread -
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=726193
- it appears that the online V5 tariff is different, and available to only new customers (like me). But I can't actually find out what it is.
I guess it will be in the welcome pack I'm going to get (after which I have seven days to cancel) but I'd like to see them beforehand.
Am I correct? Are the V5 prices different to the ones advertised on their website? Does anyone know what they are and/or if they're published anywhere?

The EDF Online tariffs V1 through to the current V5 were / are only available via comparison websites, if you switch directly via their website or over the phone you get the dearer tariffs.
If you go to the comparison site again and enter the details, you can click on the details of the EDF online tariff you are switching to and it will tell you the rates. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Ah, that makes sense, thank you.
I've just checked like you suggested and it's their lecky price what's done it for me:
If I got it right then their standard prices are:
gas: 4.183p for the first 1465 kWh per quarter, and 2.63p thereafter
lecky: 16.98p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 10.35p thereafter
while their online V5 prices are:
gas: 3.663p for the first 1465 kWh per quarter, and 2.477p thereafter
lecky: 9.754p for the first 225 kWh per quarter, and 6.164p thereafter
It's a jungle out there!0 -

Is the 6.164p correct??0 -
Is the 6.164p correct??
Very likely, yes.
In the West Midlands region, it's around that for the 2nd tier. This is what makes EDF a good rate, and even back on when I was on EDF Onlibe V1 it was the very low electricity that made the huge savings for us.
Just wished they could do something about the gas rate, as EBICO is a better deal for that, but then you can't get the low electricity rate from EDF unless you are dual fuel.
We use more electricity than gas, so did work out cheaper overall even with the higher gas rate.
Have switched Gas to Ebico and electric to BGAS, but once I get the cashback I'll switch electric away. May look back at EDF as they wouldn't let me switch from V1 to V5, will see if I can reduce my energy use also. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Hi can you tell me which comparrison site you used for getting the online V1-5 as currently edf spoke to them yesterday told me they dont do this tariff in Kent!want to try through a comp site....0

HI this is my first post i joined edf online v5 yesterday and as i have never had an online account before what happens next?0

I've also been looking at this tariff using the moneysupermarket comparison site, I can't believe how cheap this tariff is whats the catch?
For me it will be:
Gas upto 5860kwh 3.5763p then 2.4770p
Elec upto 900kwh 9.9015p then 5.964p
These prices included VAT and will save me £137 a year (not including added direct debit discounts and nectar points), plus £30 cashback for switching.
Your right about it being a jungle out there, this will be my second gas switch in a year and my second electric switch in 2008 alone(lol).
Update: Just applied to switch to both supplies to EDF.Cashback earned
Quidco : £858
Pigsback : £20 and a Beatles CD.0 -
I am quite hacked off right now.
I signed up to online saver v5 back in dec, atlantic then got me back and I rang edf to be moved back again and today got the welcome letter.
The prices in the letter looked a lot higher than what I signed up for in dec so I went to moneysupermarket site and checked the tariff it listed and the prices were the same but it is calling it the standard tariff.
I then googled for the online saver and found this thread and if I am right it seems edf are no longer offering the online saver in my area on price comparison sites, well I will be ringing tommorow to insist I am on the online saver if they say no I am going to ebico which is showing a very good tariff on moneysupermarket?
Am I the only one who is not seeing online saver available on comparison sites?
The price showing available on moneysuperket for edf is this.
duel fuel credit
electric first 900kwh 15.71p
rest 9.30p
gas first 5860 4.183p
then 2.630p
I lost the old price I was offered but it was similiar to the one posted in this thread about 3p per unit cheaper on the electric.
If I choose internet only edf isnt even listed so does indeed look like they withdrawn it to new customers
Here is the ebico prices (not heard of this company before) these are the cheapest in my area, if other areas are still showing edfs v5 then it really sucks here especially as I got on the online saver only 3 months back.
gas 2.5515p
electric 9.3555p0 -
well they wouldnt budge on the phone so cancelled my contract with them which they seemed willing to do, and I can confirm it looks like edf have removed online tariff from price comparison sites at least for my area. All the companies have prices within 10% of each other just looks like a massive cartel.0

If you do a search on this forum you will find loads of posts on Ebico - nearly all favourable.
However you should be aware that it appears that Ebico are to raise their prices at the end of the month - they haven't done so in the latest round of rises.0
