When you went to Autologon in TweakUI and selected "Logon automatically at system startup" was it showing a valid Username and Domain? Did you complete the "Set Password" routine?

Try entering you computer's name in the domain. You find that under System Properties, 'Computer Name' tab.

Actually if you're not running a LAN it wont show a domain as your logon account will be local only, so no need to worry about it.

    Found the answer.

When you had the new hardware fitted, its drivers would have had a dependency on the M$ .NET framework for installation (or you have installed .NET using Windows Update). This creates a second user account ASPNET.

There are 4 conditions required to have the Welcome screen go straight to the desktop.

    1. Only 1 user account (other than Administrator and Guest)

    2. Single user account has no password defined.

    3. User account is not part of a domain.

    4. Fast user switching is enabled.

So, Renee, you need to re-establish those four conditions, i.e. delete the ASPNET user account, and change your 'Ren' account back to remove the password you've applied. All this is done in the Control Panel -> User Accounts.

Whilst in there go to 'Pick a Task' -> 'Change the way users logon and logoff' and ensure Fast User Switching is Enabled.

    No
changed my name but couldn't find remove password
Go to 'User Accounts' -> 'Pick a Task' -> 'Change an Account,' click on your account icon then select 'Remove My Password' (3rd item down).

OK heres the answer (i hope)

goto control userpasswords2 again tick the box that says users must enter passwords (so it is selected) then highlight your name then untick users must enter a username. click apply when it prompts for a password dont type anything (ie leave blank) and click ok (hit return) reboot and all should work
