  • Yeay, I sold 8 of the 10 items and the total bids came to £21.60, I've not had chance to work out the actual profit yet though.

I really need to get on and list some more items.

You have been very lucky then.

If you accept Paypal, there is no point is saying on your listings that you do not accept responsibility for items lost in the post.
If a buyer doesn't receive your item and has paid by paypal ,they can open a dispute for "item not received" and Paypal will refund them for you with your money.

The added benefits of Recorded/Special delivery are actually for your benefit not the buyers especially if they paid by Paypal.

I was just going to say the same thing. If the buyer opens a dispute through PayPal saying they have not received them item, Paypal ask you for a royal mail tracking number (from special or recorded delivery). If you cannot provide this they will give the buyer their money back whether you like it or not.

You can then claim the money back from the royal mail. You fill in the claim form with proof of the item value (paypal or ebay receipt), RM then contact the buyer by post asking if they have received the item:
    • If the buyer responds "no", you get your money back
    • If the buyer does not respond RM send you a letter saying this and you can ask them to try again (they will try twice)
    • If the buyer responds "yes, they have received the item" you can claim against their PayPal claim as fraud!
I hope that makes sense. Its happened to me once but out of over 1,000 items its pretty good that only one has been lost
