Lending money to friends & family

Have you asked the landlady/landlord if she would take an extra £200 a month to clear the backlog? If this has been going on for some months, "but i had told the landlord so many times the end of this month and then she let me down i dont think he believes me",and you say you can afford an extra £200 a month to repay a £1,000 loan then why have you not managed to pay this already?
if they wont do that then work on the basis of the worst case scenario and assume you will be looking for somewhere new to live and start looking."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
You say the landlord has an eviction order from the court already.
"My daughter is nine and yes it is for rent ive been taken to court and to court and the landlord has an eviction order and thats it the promised money back never came which is ironic as thats why i lent it out in the first place i cant lose my home here its all ive ever known"
Does this allow time to pay off the arrears on rent or not? What is the deadline for paying or the eviction date? What country and county are you in so we can search for the rules re eviction and any local help and advice available, wales isn,t it?
MOST IMPORTANTLY,WHAT SORT OF EVICTION ORDER IS IT?YOU MAY NOT EVEN HAVE THE OPTION OF PAYING THE BACKLOG TO STAY IN THE PROPERTY DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF ORDER THE COURT HAS MADE."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
I borrowed a grand from my best friend for my holiday, I was due a compensation cheque for 2 and a half when i got back, the insurance company have failed to pay out and have been ignoring any attempts to make contact with them, I am overdue a few weeks and I feel crap as she gave me it in good faith, I have been struggling to get the money together as all attempts to get a loan have failed.
I have eventually got two pay day advances to get some of the money to her its now costing me a fortune in interest and i'm still not getting the full amount to her.
But the only thing I'm doing different is letting her know the situation which seems to be everyones problem, just ignoring it and hoping it'll go away and leaving all you very stressed out and deeply out of pocket.
I'd sell everything I had to mantain a friendship its worth more than any amount of money0 -
I lent a friend some money to help clear some of their debt. I'm worried now they don't intend paying it back. I have text messages from them asking for the money as a loan and assuring me they'll pay everything back offering to set up a standing order. Is this enough evidence to get the money back ? What should i do if they don't start paying it back ?0

hiya after my own experience, i would highly recomend that you approach them with your bank details and ask them to start a standing order and see what they could send you on a weekly basis, if they have online banking very easy to set up,,, even if they manage to start sending you a little amount and even regular it will at least they are showing they are setting their house in order to start paying you back - if they fiddle about even sending you say 10.00 a week, i would really be upfront and say you have some bills you need to settle very soon too so when can they start with the standing order
im sorry if i seem a bit blunt but i dont want anyone to suffer like ive done, and id rather have known very early on if their intentions were sincere or not cos i wouldnt have spent so much energy on being "nice" any longer,,,
harsh lesson ive learnt but i refuse to let it upset me anymore, i know i have to get out of the mess myself now but if i get any money back it will be a bonus
if you can set terms up quickly then at least hopefully they are true to their word and its sincere dialogue
mind you i lent a friend from work 20.00 last thursday cos she was desperate until pay day, but i got it back today without any chasing up,,those are friends i am now prepared to help out, and i would again too,
but hindsight for others is a lovely thing,,, just learn from us all and avoid any nightmares
good luck and let us know how you get on maz:cool:Sealed Pot Challenge member 1525

I'm not sure I agree with the weekly standing order thing... a) you have no control over it, they can just stop whenever, b) you'll have no idea whether they can do it or not, and c) you may be causing them more trouble. Just make clear that you need the money, whatever they can spare MUST go in your direction, and next time make sure you've signed something, even if it's just a slip saying they'll pay it back by a certain time... otherwise this will always happen! And with us, as a country, getting into a huge amount of debt (http://money.sky.com/mp/features/news/2009/06/24/UK-to-fall-furthest-into-debt.html) I'd be careful lending to anyone! thanks for the link interesting,,, well of course you have no control over the standing order, i replied to the poster's post
but i still stand by what i said, from my own bitter experience id rather know NOW how things are then much later months ahead,
you can deal with it in the best way you feel how to, ultimatly if the freindship means something they will bend over backwards to pay it back, or give you a firm agreement and even if you now can get somthing in writing all the better,
good luck in what you do, i for one will not be lending friends money i cannot afford to lose - lesson learnt!
have fun mazSealed Pot Challenge member 1525

Hello everyone,
I have this friend I don't think if I would feel sorry on her because of her situation. But I can't help but to help her because of her children. she keeps on borrowing money from me but there is no chance when it will be paid. That is why I decided to give her capital to start a small business of her own. I hope she will keep her promise and not to borrow anymore.0 -
